The Official Patriots Draft (Day 1) thread

I think corner WAS a need. Teams live in the nickel today, and DBs are fragile. Wilhite is a solid #4 (which is perfectly fine for where he was drafted, no bust), and Wheatley is a totally puzzling disappointment. Springs is as good as gone. Plug in a genuine quality 3rd corner with Bodden and Butler and you have the kind of powerhouse unit you want back there.

Now consider: the top corners are all gone now. The OLB prospects are not.

Ah, a breath of fresh air among the dungheap this thread is becoming!

well more than half of our D snaps were in Nicke/Dime. We need 3 GOOD CB to make that work. This gives us that.

Plenty of DE/LB types still available, and how many picks do we have tomorrow? Yeah, thought so.

Color me happy.

I'm fine with BB passing on Bryant even though I love him. Must mean Bryant won't be running tight routes in the NFL.

Odrick was maybe not going to sink in his stance enough to pay 2-gap in a 3-4.

Kindle has an effort problem and Hughes may not fit.

OK, got it.

But, CB? Really? We're expending lots of resources on this position.

I would have traded up for Pouncey or Iupati or Derrick Morgan (all it costs is a 3rd? Why not our late 2nd and get a 4th back?) or even taken D. Thomas at #22 (unless he can't run a route either).

Nothing against McCourty. I stated before the draft that they should go BPA excluding the CB and QB position.

Don't kid yourself man. We passed on a lot of solid players that would have filled bigger needs.

McCourty will be a forgotten player like Wheatley is turning out to be. At best, he's gonna be an Ellis Hobbs 2.0. But if that's who you've been trying to replace with the Butler pick last year and now the McCourty pick this year, why trade him in the first place? They should have paid Hobbs if BB really wanted that type of player.

BSPN said he was an outstanding ST. I don't know him at all, jussayin'. Springs is probably gone? I'm puzzled as usual by the pick but that's a BB draft lol. There's still plenty left on the table, I hope we grab us a pass rush.

Pats return game was pathetic last year. The kid should help.

Seriously, most of you guys need to not talk.

There is no worse environment for Bryant to go than Dallas. Terrible thing for this kid.

gosselin had him going @24 to the eagles

Rick Gosselin's final mock draft: Dez Bryant to Cowboys | NFL Draft News | Sports News | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News

Devin McCourty, Cornerback, Rutgers

Not only is McCourty an elite cover cornerback, he may be the best special teams player in this draft. He blocked seven kicks and returned a kickoff for a touchdown in his career. He replaces Sheldon Brown.

If we were going to draft a special teamer, then I would have preferred Tebow.

That would be assuming McCourty is merely a special teamer, which ATPIT is simply an asinine and presumptuous claim to make.

I'm going on the record as being stumped. I have no idea what to make of this other than the breaking news that Springs will not be returning this fall.

Most of us are. I keep getting told how good of a pick this is but I'm not sure how using the #27 overall on a guy whose best attribute is that he's a mean special teams player who can also play CB a little bit is a good thing at all. CB was a third or fourth round need. DE and OLB was a first round need. Hopefully the team can draft for need tomorrow.

Watching this was painfull only because it was so predictable
Trading down again and again while the talent we need goes to other teams.

A 1st round CB Special teamer to join the other 50 Jags on this roster.
I don't care if BB has a hundred picks in this draft....
He has officially lost his halo and has joined the league of nitwits

Good luck koolaid drinkers....and remember...Tick tock tick Toc on Brady's career...:bricks:

GB, Baltimore, Miami and NYJ (not a need but BPA they could have) all passed on the pass rushers as well. Meaning they all didn't think the value was there as well or were all tightly grouped value wise and with so many left they could get one in the second round.

I'm don't know about McCourtey either but our special teams really were that bad that last year so hopefully he helps.

We were great when we had Asante then we traded him. I think McCourty will be a good
replacement for him. Butler, Bodden, McCourty... Now if we can grab a pass rusher, WR, TE in the next round we will be set. McCourty can als return footballs.

Thanks for the level headed post. I needed this.

hughes to colts

So long to Hughes. I expect another pass rusher to be gone with the Saints pick also. Crappy day.

God d%#*!@t I really wanted Hughes.

He's a play maker, CB or STs, he makes big plays while staying disciplined. People were screaming about NYJ and MIA grabbing big named receivers, and Buffalo just grabbed a speed demon KR/RB, so NE went for a stronger secondary.

That speed demon Buffalo RB will be ripping huge runs off the right side of our D-Line if we don't fill that DE position with a capable body. Fogive me for not being completely sold on Damione Lewis.

Honestly the first thing out of the BSPN talking heads, after the dead silence and the searching through their notes to see who the hell he was, was a good special team player. I think we can all remember the wasted draft picks (because we blew another to move up to get him) on special teams demon, Slater.....

Who makes these decisions? Don't they watch the games, see the roster? How many CBs do they really need??????

They shoudl have just traded down again....

Well, that speaks more to the stupidity of the of the ESPN guys. Scout Inc (which is their ranking organization) has him ranked the 29th best player in the draft with a 90 rating.

bb is f%%%%% moron. now indy takes jerry hughes. while we continue to replace our crappy d-backs that HE drafted over the past few years.
