Looking at various compilations of training camp dates in the NFL I've found some discerpancies with the dates for the Pats. A lot of sites list the start of camp for the Pats as July 26th for rookies and July 29th for veterans, but the Pats' own website says training camp starts July 30th.

Does anybody have any idea why there seems to be these two sets of dates? Is it perhaps because the 30th is the first day that training camp is open to the public? Did the Pats announce a change?

Wow, what's with the Giants starting Aug. 3rd?

Not that anyone here really cares, but I was a bit disappointed that the Rams moved their camp back to Missouri this year. Last year it was held at a private college in southeast Wisconsin, and this year I was hoping to take a road trip down there with my cousin who likes the Rams. Apparently they were unsatisfied with the school or decided it was cheaper to stay close to home or something.

I may, however, try to sneak over to River Falls to see Cassel and Vrabel with their new club. ;)

If you do, please give us some news on Cassel. Im interested to see how he does in his first year as "the man" :D

Okay folks, I've never actually been to a team's camp before, so maybe someone can help me out. The Chiefs have their first practices on Saturday, Aug. 1, but so far there is no info available about whether it will be open to the public. Are those first practices usually open? Is it normal for them not to release this info less than two weeks before camp starts? Thanks.

Generally speaking teams make training camp open to the public from the first day of camp until around the second game of the preseason.

Of course. The one year I decide to go to training camp during the two weeks I'm actually here, it starts a day after I live. Crap

Okay, was checking out the UWRF website today, and it finally has the concrete info I was looking for:

On the days when the team practicess only once, the practice will run from 2-4 in the afternoon. During two-a-days, the team will practice from 9-11 in the morning and then again from 4:30-6:30 in the afternoon. All practices, except Family Fun Day, are free and open to the public.

Earlier this week I asked a friend of mine if he would want to go with me and to my surprise, he said yes. (My wife isn't interested in going and has other plans for next Saturday anyway.) He's from eastern PA and has been to Eagles camps before, so he should be quite helpful since I've never been to any teams' TC before.

So barring unforeseen circumstances, I'll be there on Saturday, Aug. 1. Ideally I'd like to be there for the morning practice; had my wife gone I was going to see about crashing Friday night at the home of one of my several relatives who live in that general area, but since it'll be me and this guy I think we'll skip that part, so I'd have to get up pretty early on Saturday. I'll see what my friend says.

Finally, I'm debating whether to leave my video camera at home. I can just imagine what people there will say if they see a guy in a Patriots jersey videotaping another team's practice... ;)
