Default Sox add Dan Wheeler

Sounds like a pretty good move. He's been a solid set up man for a while.Sources: Boston Red Sox have deal with reliever Dan Wheeler - ESPN Boston

Looking pretty good. Do you think they keep two lefties in Hill and Doubront?

i think they will...Hil will be the situational lefty out of the pen and i think Doubront will be the lefty long reliever.

Love the signing ... Rhode Island boy comes home. Wheeler is a grinder and we need that in the bullpen.

He's prone to the occasional long ball in critical situations, but I think he's a very good signing. The Sox are putting together a nice pen, although I'm not sold on what they have from the left side. Dubront and Hill might cut it, but I'd feel more comfortable as a Sox fan, with a more proven commodity in the pen, even if only for lefty on lefty match ups.

I agree Real World...would like to improve the left handed part of our pen. Would like to get Fuentes, but you cant have them all...or can you? muhahaha

Living on the west coast of FL I see a lot of the Rays here. Wheeler doesn't have the overpowering stuff to be a closer, though as I recall they were forced to use him as one a couple years ago. He's above average as an 8th inning guy, and may be one of the best if not the best in all baseball if you are comparing 7th inning relievers. And with his experience you can put him in there in the 8th or even 9th on occasion if Papelbon or Jenks need a day off. Like Real World said he'll sometimes give up a HR, but overall it's a very good signing. On top of that it weakens another team in the division.
