The "C" was for Choker in the 2008 ALCS.
We lost the series 4 games to 3.
Varitek 050 batting average killed us. He left runners in scoring position
time after time. He also allowed two critical passed balls that helped
cost us a game.
There is no doubt that Varitek is one of the main reasons we lost to
the Devil Rays last year.
The injuries to Beckett & Lowell also hurt.
Kotsay did nothing as a fill in for Lowell, but he does
not have a "C" on his chest. He was a bench player
who did not deliver.
You may also consider that the man who gaive Tek the C is the same
guy who ........
Tried to sign Jose Contreras
Gave JD Drew a 5 year - 70 million dollar contract.
Gave Julio Lugo a 4 year - 36 million dollar contract.
Paid 50+ million to talk to Dice-K & another 50+ million to sign him.
On the other hand... the same guy was smart enough to
offer Tek arbitration knowing that he would turn it down.
He also knew that nobody would sign Tek as a Class A
free agent and he would get the fool for half of what
he offered him in arbitration.
I totally support Theo's commitment to the farm system.
Let's also not forget that the success of our farm system has something
to do with the fact the Red Sox spend more on scouting than any other
team in the Majors - Including the Yankees..
I do like Theo, but his track record suggests that he has made a few
bad decisions in the past.
I also am not afraid to admit that Theo's success is based on the
Sox deep pockets.
I think Theo would struggle as GM of the Kansas City Royals.
