Hester lost his job in San Diego to LaRon McClain who they brought in as a FA. He's a bulldog FB, great team guy, good hands receiving and was the STs captain for the Chargers last year.
Hell, what's not to like?! Bring him in! We can make Norv Turner regret that decision.

I think that most of us would like this idea, but being the 31st team on the waiver wire order isn't going to make this a realistic possibility, unfortunately.

Re: Bring in FB Jacob Hester!!
He was all the rage when the Chargers first drafted him. A Mike Tolbert-type before they had Tolbert. Yeah, I think some team high on the waiver wire list will snatch him up.
meh... how many offenses even play a FB anymore? Any team that does probably already has had theirs in their system all offseason. FBs are not in high demand... although Detroit just cut theirs.
Everyone knows double TE sets are all the rage, now that the Pats have set the model. While the copycat league is busy copying that, we can add another wrinkle.

Hester was the guy that SD traded us their 2009 2nd round pick for. We ultimately used that pick after a trade up to take Ron Brace. Funny how things work out.

He was the 69th pick in 2008. He signed a 1 year deal in the offseason to return to the Chargers. He would not be subject to waivers, unless I'm missing something. I think he'd be a great addition, since many Chargers fans appear to be upset about this.

Yes, quite possible since he should have 4 yrs credit.
Good catch.

Here's Chargers Running Backs Coach Ollie Wilson on XTRA Sports 1360 two days ago.
Interviewer: With so many running backs on the field, how is Jacob Hester's role going to change?
Ollie Wilson: First of all, Jake is a great special teams player. He was the MVP of our special teams two years ago. He was the captain of our special teams last year. He's going to have a big role for us. He's going to do a lot of great things.
The great thing about Jake is Jake can get along with anybody. He's just that type of guy. He's that quote "football player." And I think what happens is with Le'Ron coming in and things we're doing, the first person that helped Le'Ron was Jake. "Hey, this is how we did this." Those type of things.
I see Jake playing and doing some things for us. He's finished off games for us in the past. He's played in our single-back sets and doing all the things as far as protection is concerned. So he's got the ability to do a lot of things. We'll fit him where we need to and he'll do what he can do and he'll be a plus for us.
I love him our locker room and I love him in our meeting room because he really does a great job with the young guys we have. That's what I told him when he was making the decision to come back or not. I said "Jake, the most important thing for me, and I'm being very selfish, is that I think you need to be back here because I need you to help me with my young guys." And he made that decision and I was happy.
From what's been said in the media Josh is determined to have a FB on the roster. Whether Bolden moonlights there or we bring someone in remains to be seen. I think we see that position utilized this year regardless.

They had a FB on the roster yesterday morning, after all.
