I was trying to get an idea of what Stewarts value would be in a trade so I tried to research other RB trades in the past. Apparently the NFL just announced last month (sorry if there was already a thread on this) the details on the Reggie Bush trade to Miami. Basically Miami traded a reserve safety ( ST player) and swapped 6th round picks in 2012, which came out to 19 spots for Bush. And Miami got a 1000 yard rusher (at least in 2011) out of it. Thats nuts.

Bush was going to make $12 last year under his contract with the Saints. That's why they traded him.

Yeah, the guy was a complete bust. 2nd overall pick making a ton of money and not playing up to it. Im just suprised at how little the Phins had to give for him. He was still a threat at catching the ball and in the return game. The Saints must have REALLY wanted him out.

I don't know of anyone who thinks Stewart is a top 5 running back. You'll be the first, if that's your position.

Colour me intrigued
Evan Rodriguez is smaller than Hernandez at 6'1 235 lbs. The stupid Temple web site has him at 6' 3" but the scout sites have him at 6'1". He's too small to be a TE in the NFL but projects more as a fullback. Adrian Peterson is 6'1" 215, so Rodriguez is a heavier, slower version who has been taught how to block since HS.

Aaron Hernandez is taller and heavier and is more suited to TE taking on NFL linebackers and defensive ends.

He's been successful as a TE at Temple because they play schools without the size and speed of the big boys. I really like his footwork when blocking and his hands coming out of the slot and backfield. Rather than stick Hernandez back there in the running game in short yardage situations and as a blocker against teams with great edge rushers, a big guy like this would help a lot.

I put him in here because Stewart has three years on him already and is another 5'10" RB which the Patriots have in abundance with BJGE, Vereen and Ridley. My feeling is the Pats need a big guy back there to pound the rock inside, block and catch passes when needed.

Brandon Jacobs of NYG is so huge he seems slow and takes awful punishment to his thighs and hips rendering him injured a lot.

Those rumours are clearly BS. Any player must be insane to do that.

AP was also a fumbler at the beginning, now he has corrected those mistakes.

Actually Hillis' numbers sound like everything the Pats need in a RB. Put up great numbers 2 seasons ago in the toughest division to run against in the NFL, with the 3 other being top10, ravens and pitt like top 5 run defenses.
And the Browns had no passing game, so the defences could stack up the box against him, and he still produced. Against the Pats, defences will have to respect the pass game, so I would imagine that Hillis would put even better numbers.

Can push the pile on his own.
It takes more than 1 defender to bring him down, sometimes even 3 are not enough.Peyton HILLIS Trucks Brandon SPIKES and Scores - YouTube
He's really good in goal-line situations.
He also has very good hands, great catcher in the backfield.
He's still young.

He would be perfect for the Pats to help control the clock.
Cleveland Browns Should Pay Peyton Hillis to Stay | Bleacher Report

In 2010, Hillis led the league in standard deviation of yards per carry for all backs who averaged more than three yards per carry. That means that every time Hillis carried the ball, he was more likely to carry it for his average of 4.4 yards than any other back in the league.
Compared to Hillis, a back like Hardesty is more likely to break free for a big gain of 15 yards. But Hardesty is also more likely to be stopped for no gain or a loss—something Browns fans saw a lot of when he and Ogbonnaya were splitting carries in Hillis’ absence.

In fact, in comparison to Hillis, every back in the league is more likely to be stopped at or near the line of scrimmage. If you’re the Browns, a player such as Hillis is a nice advantage to have on your team.

I used to LOVE Hillis but he seems to have gone crazy of late, apparently he was thinking of quitting football to join the CIA, that makes a lot of sense, it's not like being on the cover of Madden would make him identifiable at all. He also quit on his team last year, he even sat out because of strep throat after consulting his agent. What, is playing with strep going to affect his marketability?

The guy seems like a headcase who also wants a big payday.

Yep, more hype for a completely unnecessary player.

(Hillis, not Stewart)

LOL completely unnecessary player. Hillis is just what the Pats need.
Good blocker.
Great catcher in backfield.
Put up respectable numbers in the toughest division to run against.
Monster in goal line situations.
Helps to control the clock and give the defence time to breathe.

Do you believe every crazy rumour on the interwebz?
Payday? Cut Stinko, release BJGE, and there is more than enough there.

What does being 5'10" have to do with anything? Some of the better backs in the league are much smaller then Stewart. Ray Rice and MJD are both around 5'9" 200 lbs. Would you like to see either of those two in a Pats uni? Stewart is listed at 5'11' 235 lbs. That's a load. And bigger then any of the Pats current RB's. Ridley is close though. Stewart has been in the league for 4 seasons, but has only carried the ball 725 times and has only had 1 season with more then 200 carries. That is not alot of wear at all. Guys like Michael Turner, MJD and Frank Gore all have more then double the carries that Stewart has and are still at the top of their game. Matt Forte has more carries then Stewart and he is probably about to get a huge contract. Stewart has alot left in the tank.
