Default Some Insight: The Pats Asked for the Giants

Hi all,

Something interesting happened to me today and I wanted to share it with everyone. First, I must give you some background info. I live in Gainesville at the moment because I attended the University of Florida (go Gators!). As such, I've seen and interacted with many of the players (past and present) and their friends and families. I currently work as a loan officer and one of my customers is very close to Gerard Warren, a UF alum. For months he's been talking about how Warren was promising to fly him to Foxboro for the playoffs if they made it. This guy came in a few weeks ago saying that he would be going to all of their playoff games and the SB (if they made it). Of course I was more than skeptical . . . TOO SKEPTICAL. I don't think I ever doubted whether or not he knows Warren. I think I doubted whether or not he was as close to Warren as he said.

Well, he removed all doubt today. He came in today and immediately started telling me about the playoff games. He told me about the atmosphere of both games and all that good stuff. He then pulled out his cell phone and started to show me pictures of him with the team after the Baltimore win. It was really him in pictures with Mayo and Ninko. I could see a few of the other guys (Arrington, Fletcher, and Love) in the background. Here's the VERY BEST PART! He looked me in my eyes and told me that the whole team got together to watch the NFCCG and THE WHOLE TEAM was rooting for the Giants to win. He told me point blank that the Patriots WANTED to face the Giants again! They did not want to play against the 49ers. He said that they celebrated the Ravens victory and, when the Giants won, they celebrated that as well.

That is absolutely amazing to me for some reason. I got goosebumps when he told me the story because this is a truly confident team that wants revenge. We've heard all the talk from the Giants and zilch from the Patriots. From the way BB has been acting to the way the guys talk during the interviews, there's just this quiet confidence brewing with the Patriots that I can't help but love. I'm more excited for this game now than I ever was before. What do you all think about that?

well, I have no reason to doubt you. bottom line is we have to come out and execute. they can talk, we can keep our mouth shut. none of it matters when the whistle blows. turnover battle, penalties and big plays will determine the winner. i really hope we win

Good story bro. It's funny how none of us fans wanted to play the Giants, but the players themselves did. Maybe they have more confidence in themselves than we do, which is important. Who cares what we think, as long as the players believe in themselves.

"He’s the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. He goes from being a rookie that nobody is expecting anything from, to taking over with people saying he can’t do it, to winning three Super Bowls....It should already be obvious he’s the greatest quarterback to ever have played. "

PatsBoy12 -

I love you. You made my night. Now, all I can hope for is that Brady also wants the Giants as bad as the rest of the guys. I am truly nervous about how he might play, especially if he gets rattled early.
But regardless…thanks for bringing a smile to my face with an awesome story.

I've no reason to doubt your story dude.... But we'll all had our share of "I know a guy, that knows a guy".....

That said..... It would not surprise me a bit. San Fran is a better team then NY. Statistically, the NYG are not nearly as formidable as some of the other NFC teams we could have faced. Sure, they won to get here, but they certainly are not nearly as fearful (statistically) as GB, NO or SF.

Also, there is the whole revenge factor, which I certainly think there is something more to that then people know.

I liked your story (literally... by clicking the button), But it has to be more about the matchup, and their familiarity with the Giants.
Because I don't think it can be for revenge.
All of the players you mentioned weren't with the team during the 2007 SB loss.

Thanks for sharing. The team will need to prove their confidence Sunday though. The whole 'be careful what you wish for' concept comes to mind

I've cooked up a couple theories on this.

1) Tinfoil hat theory: I read recently -- sorry, can't recall where; Bedard, maybe? -- that, when passing, Eli makes a quick glance at the play's designed first read just prior to snapping the ball. (I'm skeptical to be sure; the Packers didn't notice this?) If the D is able to key on some pre-snap tell, the game will be over before it starts.

2) Realistic theory: This is a deliberate adjustment by the coaching staff from SB 42, where it seemed the team was wound incredibly tight coming into the game. (Not all that unreasonable, given the circumstances.) BB is setting the tone with his press conferences.

After four consecutive Super Bowls decided by 3 points, my cardiovascular health and I are hoping for a final score along the lines of 97-3 Pats.

I believe that one of the Redskins DB's said they knew that... Deangelo Hall perhaps?
