Default Losing more respect for King by the day

I used to enjoy Peter King because I think he is a good writer and generally has a good perspective on things....then spygate happened and everything changed. Today he answers emails:

"PATRIOT NATION EVIDENTLY HAS NO PLANS TO FORGIVE JOHN TOMASE. From Jean Bissonnette, of Guilford Conn.: "It figures that you would stand up for Tomase. He gets half the nation in a frenzy ... ready to hang the Patriots and he gets off with an 'I'm sorry.' So he wants to rebuild our trust. Good luck."

He's hardly getting off by saying he's sorry. He knows he's never going to be forgiven by most Patriots fans. What would you like him to do? Slit his wrists?"

No Peter, I think we can find something in between, like maybe he should resign and move to another paper in another city where he can rebuild his reputation. Its pretty disgusting to me that he thinks Pats fans want tomase to die....really Peter, you really think we wish death on someone for being an idiot?

His response is a fine example of a false dilemma - fallacious in every way, and very common in opinion based journalism.

If a writer refuse to think before he sets pen to paper, there's little value in reading what he has written.

Tomase does not deserve forgiveness, he sat on this for over 100 days and kept his piehole shut.. he put out a damning article the week of the superbowl, he has unleased the fury of millions who tend to beg the issue and talk about cheating etc.. Tomase can go write for the east bumf..ck daily news for all I care.. many of the print folks circle their wagons when one of them are held accountable.. see Ryan, Masarotti, Callahan.. on and on and on..

2 Pats articles in 2 weeks.? King, you got my attention and I look forward to your third Pats article at the end of this month.

There will never be accountibility and responsibility if anybody can say sorry after screwing it up. What Tomase did was unacceptable and he needs to resign.

Maybe I'm reading that wrong, but that's a pretty bold statement. Apologizing is an important step in the road to redemption, but saying "I'm sorry" doesn't absolve someone of the necessity of repercussions, of which Tomase has not seen (aside from the tarnishing of his reputation).

I don't like Dungy and that's because he [was] the head coach of the Colts. Period. End of question. The degree to which I like a player or coach is predicated solely on the color of the laundry they wear on Sunday. When fans admit this and stop bashing players and coaches for any other reason, the world of sports will be infinitely improved.

The thing that gets me about King these days is that he flip flops more than a pancake. It is a trend that I noticed when he started the NBC football show on Sunday nights. It is a shame because he used to be a good writer and obviously has just about everyone's phone number. A good source of information, but he is obviously less objective than he used to be.

Tomase should quit journalism - forget about moving to a new city. If a lawyer engaged in such misconduct - he would be disbarred. If a Doctor did that he would lose his license.

Tomase MADE UP A STORY - a negative one during the superbowl off week. It doesn't get much worse then that in sports journalism. Its equivalent to killing a patient through gross misconduct for a doctor.

King's idea that Tomase deserves acclaim for owning up is so absurd. Tomase had to own up b/c if he didn't, Kraft would come after the Herald. Tomase's "owning up" was actually an evasive and self-indulgent explanation of how he F'd up that never included an apology until later.

Peter King has always been an overrated contributor, now he just sucks.

This guy is totally obsessed with the Pats. BB is deep inside his brain housing group. He has clearly been shut out and is acting pi$$y about it.

It must be frightening to know the biggest story in the sport you cover has closed the iron door on you. It's like Michael Jordan not talking to an NBA writer in the mid-90s.

These grandiose declarations from old hacks like King and Ryan that "the Pats are FOREVER tainted..." etc make me laugh. Who made these guys guardians of football history? Pretty funny they feel they have the power to control a man's legacy. If they had that power, they could have had BB fired. But guess what? Those days are over: The NYTimes, SI, ESPN and HBO do not have the power to manipulate the sheeple like they used to. This whole scandal was an exercise in big media's growing impotence more than anything else. They picked a target, went all out for the kill, and failed. BB's still standing- yep, our very own Vito Corleone survived the hit. Watch out.
