Re: How to FIGHT BACK 101
I have been thinking long and hard about what to say to Patriot bashers.
I started a post back when this all started pointing out that other teams have been involved in cheating scandals going back to the beginning of the league, ranging from bounties on players, gambling and salary cap violations. All of which are on par with or worse than video taping signals, but those teams aren't reviled like the Pats have been.
What I think this all boils down to is BB not being a media darling rah-rah type coach. He is notoriously hard for the press to handle, but lacks the type of personality, like Bill Parcells, that would allow him to be forgiven for being difficult. BB is looked at as being arrogant and BP is looked at as being sarcastic , but funny thus forgivable.
In the end I think the best argument for Pats fans to use with 90% of the fans of other teams is: Would you want BB to coach your team over your current coach? I think you would be hard pressed to find many honest KC, SF, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Detroit, MN, Oakland, or Atlanta fans that would tell you that they wouldn't love to have BB coach their team.
For the rest I plan on taking the approach of if it had been your team caught video taping wouldn't you think this whole thing is overblown.
Maybe I am being overly optimistic about the capacity of understanding among other teams fans, or maybe I am under estimating the amount of animosity that fans of other teams have towards BB and the Pats.
For the people (media and fans) that just can't let go of the hate (mostly in NY from what I have seen) there is nothing we can do to change their minds and we will never be able to. I am just going to let it go.
