ESPN II played SB XXXVI tonight and I was amazed at what a thrashing Kurt Warner took in that game. Man, what an ass kicking. One of the finest plays of the night was Richard just throwing his man to the ground and sacking Warner. Some rookie, that Richard. "The Pats had no pro-bowlers on that team!" they used to say.

But Warner took such a severe ass kicking that I'm just amazed that he even finished the game. I had forgotten how brutally he was beaten up by our defense. He hung in there though. Give him that much. But his thumb was obviously hurt and he was rushing back and forth half the night looking like the main guy in the Chinese Fire Drill.

At the time I don't think I realized how devastating our defense was in that game. To see the ass kicking in slow motion made me realize that they really took it to the Rams. The Rams were manhandled, and they haven't been men enough to admit it since. They're still looking for excuses.

I thought Lawyer Milloy pretty much summed it up perfectly during the tropy presentation:

"All y'all, Dog . . . We put it on 'em."

They did put it on 'em. I'm not so sure that the Patriots could win that game now. In 2003-05, the rules on touching QBs and WRs tightened up. I count three separate instances that would almost certainly be called roughing the QB today that weren't fouls back then, including possibly the pick 6. (Rams gave Brady a few shots too, so it went both ways.)

For the record-it was MARSHALL FAULK that made their offense click. He created so many mismatches in the running game and secondary that it opened up a million of opportunities for every Joe Blow.

With that being said-ANY QB could have thrived in Martz' system-but once it was exposed as the one-trick pony it was, Warner was done.

What is really almost comical is that Polian pointed to that game as one of the prime examples of why the contact rules had to be reinforced. Supposedly we won by getting away with being too physical, when all the while it was because we had a tape of their red zone offense walk thru...

The real truth is we psychologically damage teams. Ernie is really sitting up there in the press box beaming encrypted mind bending brain waves at them. Warner didn't hurt his thumb because he hit it on a helmet, Ernie bent it with the sheer force of genius. Still acts up to this day every time Ernie watches a Rams game in HD.

Don't even get me started on what Ernie did to Marshall's knee...not to mention the burr he permanently inserted in his ass.

I love how other fans are running with the Ernie Adams story. They'd made him out to be some Rainman type savant who just sits in a closet and watches game film all day, every day.
