There were a couple questionable calls from SD's perspective. One where Samuel hooked a Chargers receiver around the waist on an incomplete pass and another on the illegal contact call on Stallworth when Stallworth was holding onto the the defenders arm as much as he was being held, but those didn't impact the final result of the game. There's not much either side can complain about.

There's nothing illegal about hooking a WR around the waist.

And a good amount of charger fans apparently think they got screwed by the refs http://forums.chargers.com/showthread.php?t=53177

The absence of flags made the game enjoyable to watch. Compare with the NFC game where some highly questionable callls are being made in the Packers' favor: holding by the goal line keeping the G-men opinned; phantom Illegal contact giving GB a first down.

There's nothing saying you can't touch the receiver... You just can't turn them, or hold arms or anything.

The illegal contact is for after 5 yards. I didn't see Donte holdin' him, but I'll look again. Most of the people at the SD board I see are talking about a legwhip on PR by Vrabel (which is nuts) lol.

You're right though, there was nothing game changing, no horrible calls or anything.

I don't remember who mentioned it but one of the announcers did, as long as you don't turn the receiver you can put your arm on him while making a play on the ball.

They called one illegal hands early on against the Chargers, basically to say, "knock it out," they got the facemask right, Triplette was all over the running into the kicker and avoided calling it a personal foul, and they let the players sort it out. Every side line play was perfect -- and there were a few.

There was only one bad call in the game that I saw. Steed missed the fact that a San Diego receiver had stepped out of bounds before catching the ball, which should have been an illegal touching penalty. But, in his defense, he was straightlined by the goal post and it was a bang bang play where he DID get the out of bounds call right.

I came out in the middle of the 3rd quarter and told my wife that thus far this is the best called game I have seen during the postseason.

I also thought the catch in the end zone should have been a penalty at first glance, but it should only be called if the player purposely runs out of bounds and/or does not try to re-establish himself inbounds. Neither of which is evident by the replay. Good non-call, IMO.

Great game for the refs.

Mike Carey will be the R. The rest of the crew can be figured out by process of elimination -- I'll try later tonight.

Carey, interestingly, called the Patriots/Giants game in week 17.

Bull*****. The Refs swallowed the whistles. If that's the way it's gonna be, OK...
