Default Does a win next week clinch a playoff spot??

would give us 10 wins, plus we own the tie breaker on the loser of either ravens or steelers ... The goal would have to be win the division, would not want to go to San Diego or Indy for a round 1 playoff game, but to clinch a playoff spot still is a great feeling..

Just keep winning......

If Pats beat Jets, they are great shape....their SOS is tougher than the Jets SOS I believe.....

Just Win Baby !

No. There would still be seven teams capable of winning 11-12 if they win out. Plus a couple of more who could go to 10 if they win out.

According to AFC Winning Magic Numbers , the Pats' current magic number is 3.

Such a good answer for such a bad question (sorry OP - but unlikely as it seems, yes, a team can win 11 and miss the playoffs LOL... never mind 10.)

But "win 3 and in" seems pretty comforting, though of course the whole focus right now is winning the division - and that road goes through the monday night Jets game, realistically.

Now what's cool is that the same math applies to the greenies. I'd love to knock them out 1-on-1, and then see a collapse so they miss the whole party. If nothing else, it would give Lady Tom another opportunity to cry on the air about how he always saw the Pats as role models and is so disappointed that we were mean to him.

I had the same reaction at first but I think he meant Lady Tomlinson.

ha-hah! I would love to see that. You forget to add that Mr. Tomlinson would also mention how classy he is and how BB is the epitome of it.

Note this is NOT the same as most "magic number" calculations.

Quote:
A Winning Magic Number is the number of consecutive upcoming games a team must win to guarantee winning a given playoff spot.
So they are apparently saying we clinch by beating DET, NYJ, and CHI.

If we lose one of those we may not control our own destiny, or at least they have not computed it (due to myriad tiebreakers).
