I don't understand the pouting whenever anyone writes something that is not overtly positive about the Patriots. There are plenty of articles today about how great they are (well deserved I might add) but it comes down to the Colts. I have been thinking about beating the Colts ever since the AFC championship. Thomase is just racing ahead and adding his comments on the real "game of the year".
The defense may have let its guard down a little bit once the team got an early cushion but against Indy there won't be false starts, holding penalties or dropped balls. Their offense is excellent and ruthless, look what they did to their ex-buddy Jason David. The Pats defense has speed issues at LB and Safety, no big surprise. The Colts know this and so do other teams, it will be up to the Patriots to prevent unfavorable matchups.
It figures to be a NBA All-Star game when they meet on November 4th. If the Pats defense (or the Colts defense) can come up with 3-4 stops in may be all they need.
It is not bad news that the Pats win and have areas of improvement in all 3 areas.
I agree. I enjoyed the article for a refreshing perspective. It gives you something to think about beyond the general cheerleading. It's not like it says the Pats are BAD. People need to calm down.
And FWIW, I think the Herald blows the DOORS off the Globe in terms of coverage. Reiss can only do so much.

Tomase is a typical Red Sox baseball writer that always finds something to complain about.
The entire philosophy of BB's Defenses is to prevent the big play and keep everything in front of them. His Defenses are "sound". No cheap scores are meant to be yielded without completing a string of plays. That means they are PURPOSELY susceptible to short passes over the middle.
The BB premise is that you cannot do that successfully enough over a course of the game to score often. The Colts proved otherwise, in one half of play in the AFCCG, when the Pats ran out of players, and others players were gassed with the effects of the flu.
But BB believes in not getting mad, but getting even... and getting equal. He went out to improve his Offense enough that his Defensive philosophy still applies, but is relaxed in the number of scores it can yield to a team, and still remain successful.
The Rules in the NFL have become so lopsided that Offenses now have an enormous advantage over the Defense. Polian is responsible for a lot of that. But BB didn't complain. He merely went out and created an equally awesome Offense to add to his superior Defense. Then he trusted that getting a few new Defensive players and getting back the ones unavailable last year's AFCCG would be enough.
Belichick has now created a Juggernaut. Blitzkrieg is back!
But this offensive bias needs to be rebalanced. it is not just the Colts and Pats. Many average QBs are putting up heretofore unmatched stats. The potential 99 yard penalty of the PI needs revision into egregious spot fouls and incidental 5 yards and a FD calls. The no contact Rule needs revision and expansion to perhaps ten yards. up from five yards. The Shanahan blocking for the Offensive line that has destroyed so many careers by chop blocks, to D linemen, needs a revision.
Then the NFL will get back to a balanced case of Offense versus Defense.
Wimps complaining about the 'negative' article must hate BB then. He always searches for deficiencies and areas requiring improvement. Brady and the whole team does too. I saw the article as raising possible weaknesses that might be exploited by a world class O like Indy has.
Maybe folks are just pissed that once again Tomase nailed it first with the report that Maroney once again would miss the game.
Does it ever get a little rank with Tomase's balls in your face all day?

Tomase's article is a perfect expression of how I feel about this season, and about how I reacted to seeing yesterday's game. As PsychoPat says, the stats don't look too bad for our defense, but watching the Cowboys in the 2nd quarter marching down the field with not even a hint of being stopped, made me worry: What will it be like vs. Indy? Hopefully we can beat Indy 36-31.
thankfully, its not time to worry about Indy yet.
We did what we planned to do. we contained romo and tried to make him outgun brady. were it not for the strip-sack TD return, would tomase have written this article. No. we would never have been behind in the second half which is what got his stained panties in a wad in the first place.
What we lacked on D yesterday, (6.5/rush and slow developing receptions over the middle) can be corrected with the return of seymour. his return will do the following:
1.) create more push and less time for opposing QB's
2.) shore up the run D
3.) occupy a TE or RB to double Seymour (not necessary for Green)
4.) allow us to rotate 4 starting caliber linemen (fresher)

Very true...although any of the positives of what the D did were overlooked..(Am I surprised??) But you are correct about what Sey will do..
There are some problems on the D..(as with all the three teams...offense and ST as well..) But of course..he didn't mention the injury to AD..and his probably playing with only 75% of his ability. I think a mention of that might have balanced the article as well...(No surprise it was not..) They will take care of it all...
yea rit, i think the colts are even more scared of us now...i mean really...48 points...LOL
and yea our defense gave up...but that does not inlcude seymour sacking the lights out of manning, b/c he will face a rookie tackle, LOL, still a match up i cant wait to see...
and they will need extra protection, which means that less ppl out...
the colts wont be able to run on us, cuz that is wut we will take out of their game, and this season their offense is based much more on that...put hobbs on a slow harrison and samuel on wayne, and rodney/adalius on clark, and gay on gonzalez, and u have favorable matchups all over the place for the pats...
i just dont see the colts offense as such a force against us this year...

Holy crap! The more I read, the more I believed. This 5-star post rings so true that it just made my day. AzPats has seen the light.
