The Patriots plan to sign Miami restricted free-agent wide receiver Wes Welker to a seven-year offers sheet worth $38.5 million. Once Welker signs the offer sheet, the Dolphins will have seven days to match it. If they decide not to, they would get the Patriots' second-round draft pick.
we must have had to.

there's no way we paid 5 million bucks a year for Welker. plus its a 7 year deal. There's gotta to be phony years.

There almost has to be a couple of phony years on the back end of that deal. Welker might actually be worth 5 million a year, but there is no way the Pats would have to pay that much.

If we are going to blow a second round pick on him, I guess the money isn't all that incredible.

*sighs

I wonder what the poison clause is?

no I don't think we are actually paying that. There are phony years in there, and there is a clause in there that says if the Dolphins match, those phony years become guaranteed.

I hope they didn't use a poison pill and I hope they didn't offer him 38 million.

Ugh, please tell me it not true.

Keep the pick and sign Stallworth for the same amount.

Not only would the money be absurd, I also think it's silly to give a 2nd round pick to Miami for Welker, considering the WR position is pretty deep this year in the draft. There are likely going to be several WRs at around our 2nd round pick who should be just as good as Welker, for much less money, and without letting a divisional rival have another day 1 pick. That would be just absurd. I really hope that's not true.
