I wonder all the time if things are just meant to be, or if all things happen for a reason. Did the Pats lose, or was it just meant for Indy to win? Just thinking back to this past game when the Pats lost, and all games when even they won. This playoff year, and those superbowl years, it just seems like the ball bounces in a certain direction. What are your beliefs?

I believe you make your own luck by working hard and staying focused -- most of the time. But yeah, there are cosmic forces at work in some cases we cannot control. For instance, Ron Borges was born to be a lousy, rotten human being. His purpose in life was to become a liar and a weasel. His parents are/were probably lousy, rotten human beings and although he couldn't have controlled the environment he was born into, it was what it was. I guess that was his fate.
I'm not a big believer in the all things happen for a reason philosophy in life and in football.
I'm not yet sure what this means for this team. When we went on our run from 2001-2004 I felt like there would be two phases to the BB-Brady era in New England.
Phase one has already been completed. It produced 3 titles. Phase 2 is underway and I believe it will produce 2 more over the next 4-5 seasons. Yesterday's result didn't change that. In my view, we were better in 2006 than we were in 2005 and we will be better in 2007 than we were in 2006. And yes, I believe BB is here for the long term.

Absolutely not -- football brings us face to face with uncertainty. It's one of the things I love about it.

Fate plays a big role in SB winners, I believe, but not just on the side of "footballness". I am a big believer in the underneath character and nature of people and how this fits with what the higher forces expect from a winner, especially in America.
American winners are somehow expected to be leaders in true class and character. I believe the Pats of 2001-2004(5) led in that category and therefore could win the three SBs.
The real test comes after early success: the lower forces of selfishness are just crying out for appeasement, but the forces for unselfishness must overcome that temptation.
I've been following pro sports for some 40 years and that trend has become clear. Dynasties like the Celts, the Yankees, the Canadiens, the Edmonton Oilers, etc., all had a certain quality of unselfishness among the players. The moment they lost that was the moment they went down to the level of "average team", where self-centered goals are more important than team goals.
Character is king, and fate observes that scrupulously.

Well, I think it's more like having a mole cut out before it can become skin cancer. Like John Connor said in Terminator 2, "There is no fate but what we make for ourselves".
The Pats are making their own fate by getting rid of high-priced players (who may or may not be on the back nine) and signing highly coachable low-cost/high-reward type players. That's the "secret" to there success.

There's no fate in the sense of a greater power controling things (I'm not talking about the existence of a God, just that nothing - including God if you believe in him - directly influences events in the physical world). On the other hand, a belief in fate might affect a team's performance (if the Patriots didn't believe they were a team of fate in 2001, maybe they wouldn't have played with quite that same drive). Football is all about making plays, nothing more and nothing less, but the human mind is a complicated thing and gets it's highs and lows from surprising places.

Borges is trash. Remember when he tried to beat up a 60 year old man with a cane? Heres an article on Borges, and about that fight just to refresh your memory of how wonderful this guy is.......................kidding dont thing you need to be reminded. Here it is anyway.
