Re: Need some opinions
My honest, no holds barred opinion is:
The Jets were the better team that day, but that was because NE played their worst game in over three years. For all the talk about the great game plan, the Jets essentially crowded the line and played up on the WRs. There was nothing all that spectacular about their game plan nor the execution of it.
That is not to say that it wasn't a good game plan, just that it was an obvious game plan considering NE's struggles at WR and OL injuries. It was completely flabbergasting that NE looked like they weren't prepared for it at all.
On offense, Pennington actually played a poor game. His TD to Crotchery was a terrible decision and a poor throw and he was completely let off the hook by a great WR play and a disgustingly poor play by Hobbs. The Jets OL did play a decent game, but, again, it was hard to tell just how well they played when NE was so unbelieveably terrible. Warren was gone and that hurt, but Wilfork and Seymour was totally pushed around. If they could sit here and tell me that they played a very good game and were beat anyway, then I would say the Jets' OL played an amazing game. But I doubt it.
The game plan for the Jets passing offense seemed to be just throw it short and take advantage of the cushion NE gave them. Again, it was surprising how unprepared NE looked in stopping this considering
A) It was a clear thing to do because of how far back NE had played their CBs after losing Harrison and
B) Pennington is only good at throwing short.
It was mindblowing how NE didn't make any adjustment, to the point that Crothery got a 1st down on their final "clock run down" drive on a swing pass on 3rd and 5 with the CB 7 yards off of him.
In short, I think NY made a handful of good plays, many OK plays and a bunch of a poor plays. It was just that NE made one or two good plays and basically the rest of the game comprised of the 5-10 worst plays of any other game, so NY's blah game just happened to be better....barely.
Every team is a "threat" in the playoffs, but I would be surprised to see NY beat NE again.
