Default OT: Why do I suck at putting?

I only play golf around 15 times per year. I know that I shouldn't expect much unless I play more.

Yet, I really suck at putting. If I could putt better I could cut 10 strokes from my score. It's just a little friggin ball that I'm trying to roll in a hole. It shouldn't be that hard. I'd be happy averaging a 2 putt per hole.

I even use a Calloway ball with a Patriots logo, just for putting.

Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to improve putting?

Does it have anything to do with the fact that you could have been a porn star ? Do you have trouble bending over ?

Never thought of it that way. Might need to bend my elbows a little more.

Terrorize the ball just like good 'ole Happy:

"Son of a ***** ball. Why didn't you just go home? That's your home. Are you too good for your home? Answer me!"

The only advice I can give is practice, practice, practice. This coming from one of the worst golfers you'll ever meet. I'm actually a pretty decent putter, it's the chipping that kills me.

Secret to PUTTING...hmmm...1st you tell us you have no problem with the hole and now you tell us you can't get it in the hole.

ANYWAYS:

1- Think of your hands holding the club as the tip of an upside-down triangle. Your arms are the sides and shoulder to shoulder the base. This triangle pivots back and forth seperate from your body....NOTHING ELSE MOVES.

2- keep your right hand stronger than your left if you are right handed or vice-versa for a lefty.

3- Do not move your head at all through the strike and try to stare at the back of the ball...this keeps your head more still.

4- When your head moves your center of gravity moves so move it AND YOU LOSE IT.

5- accelerate through the strike...many poor putters decelerate through the putt which throws off your line and the speed.

6- practice the exact stroke you need before putting. Many golfers practice a swing or two different than the stroke they need. If you practice the stroke you need away from the ball then you will strike it better when you putt.

DON'T LET ANYONE TLL YOU HOW TO STAND OR HOLD THE CLUB. LIKE BASEBALL, THERE ARE MANY STANCES BUT THE PHYSICS ARE THE SAME. YOUR CENTER OF GRAVITY NEEDS TO STAY SLIGHTLY BEHIND THE BALL AT ALL TIMES.

Enjoy yourself Nut...you've been thinking to hard lately. A bottle of "Cristal" or "Grey Goose" in a cooler could be what you need most because you are just to tense when you putt. If you putt after the porn you will be more relaxed...so try that also.

BTW I was a 3-handicap at my best. A great hitter and horrible putter. I became a GREAT PUTTER after I got married and had my kids and only played 6-10 times a year....sad but true story...oh what might have been....TigerNut

Nut, why are you so forum challenged? Instead of posting this as an OT thread where FOOTBALL TALK belongs, why not initiate such subjects in the General Talk forum, where this probably will be removed to anyway? Both of your recent OT queries can be addressed with the same answer (including why you never became a porn star): Your putter is inadequate and your balls aren't up to par.

Nicely done. If there was such a thing over here I would give you a big POTW (post of the week) nomination.

FBN, your a golfer, good lesson!
I might add, make sure your lining up your putt with your dominant eye. I remember hearing an old time golfer when I was a kid, he said, grip the putter (in terms of strength) like you were holding your tool. It must have left an impression on me as I've never forgotten.
