Default Mankins' price just went up

Jahri Evans of New Orleans Saints gets seven-year deal - ESPN

sometimes you simply bite the bullet before the last possible moment, or it winds up costing you a boatload

needless to say, you shouldn't expect to see mankins around until the season starts

He shouldn't get a bigger contract than Evans, Evans is the best guard in football

In NO offense, you could argue the guards on more important to protecting Brees than the tackles, because he is shorter and needs to move around to find passing lanes, those guards give him the room to do so. Brees can sense the rush so well he can get buy with someone like Bushrod playing LT, aslong as he has those dominating guards

They should try to keep the OL intact, or are they moving Light or Vollmer to G? Probably a bad idea. I agree with the above poster, he'll be a chief if we don't sign him

I'm sure Mankins isn't going to look at it this way.

Before everyone gets their panties in a bunch, we need to find out what the real deal is. It is a seven year deal so that means the last 2-3 years are bogus just to allow the agent look good. The $19 million in the first year is a whole heck of a lot, but he only makes about $3 million ayear over the next two. What is he making in year's four or five. Does he have a balloon payment in year six?

Even with the facts we know, Evans is getting paid really, really well; but it may not be nearly as lucrative as it sounds.

Only if KC coughs up draft picks.

With Ohrenberger and Bussey and Kaczur able to slide over to guard...I don't think they pay him huge money.

If they were going to they would have already.

There has to be some turnover at positions where you allow the new guys to play.

If this guy's a Hannah type, so be it. Mankins isn't. He's a good player at a position that isn't real high value, so we make a deal or replace him.

Mankins is, by a good margin, the best OL in this team, and unquestionably one of the top guards in football. So you pay him as such unless you want to start Rich Ohrnberger. Those talking about the situation as if he is easily replaceable couldn't be more wrong.
