First of all, it requires surgery so it is not nothing.

Second of all, if you play golf you would realize it is not exactly a contact sport - some do not even consider it to be a sport.

Football and golf are worlds apart - hence, the helmet, and full pads needed for one game and Kaki pants needed for the other.
