Default DeMaurice Smith is the new NFLPA Executive Director

This catches most observers by surprise.

Smith, who was never a player, is almost certainly the least polarizing of the remaining candidates.

The way I figure it, a less polarizing diretor means a stronger, more unified union.

A stronger union is more capable of accepting a CBA which the union leadership thinks is a good idea, but which looks bad to the players and agents. A weaker union might have had to reject such a deal, due to internal political considerations.

That significantly increases the chances that a CBA gets done sooner rather than later. I'm still betting on an uncapped 2010, but I'm more willing to entertain the possibility of a deal before then.

Surprised, to say the least.

Troy Vincent was supposed to be the lead candidate and Trace Armstrong was a top three candidate. Obviously Vincent's partnership with a financial advisory company was a huge issues, coupled with the fear that his relationship with his former agent would lead to unfair practices. Armstrong must not had wanted to give up his representation of NFL coaches. The commission must be too good to pass up.

True to the matter you cant tell until it all shakes loose who gets the wet leg and who gets the butter biscuit. Bit of a surprise I would say thought it was Troys to lose. Egg grating in the back turned around that outcome. Or maybe Im just cynical.

Good news it was not Troy Vincent, if it was him, we were going to have a lockout ...

Bad news, his politcal ties, hopefully he has some negotiating experience..
