But the division that the Pats are playing is already decided...they rotate year to year..so it's only two games that are not decided and those depend on where a team finishes...
No, they only made it year to year from 2002 to 2009. For 2010 and on they haven't decided yet. The plan was to do the 8 year rotation, which was mainly set up so every team plays every opposite conference team twice, once home and once away. That takes 8 years to do, hence the 2002-2009 schedule.
At the owners meeting this year they will evaluate how it went and decide what to do.
I like the 8-year plan and hope they keep it. But they have not decided who will play whom each year.
The easiest thing is what the website referenced above did. May the 2010 schedule the same as 2002 schedule, make the 2011 schedule the same as the 2003 schedule, etc etc.
But there is no evidence they will do that. And it assumes that no owner will put in his two cents, that Al Davis won't blame the schedule and push to have it randomized same as they did in 2002. Or that the Colts won't ask to play the NFCW next year instead of the NFCE because right now the W is weaker than the E.
I don't care when they schedule the games, if they cut and paste or not, but I hope they continue the general scheme they've been using the last 8 years. I cannot imagine one more fair.
The Patriots main rival is the Colts. Doesn't mean you can't have more than one rival. I would classify all division teams as rivals. The Boston/NY, RedSox/Yankee thing and Parcells/BB, BB/Mangini thing was media driven and I believe is what the poster meant when he said heated rivalry.

Huh?
I like the current schedule--in fact, I think the design is about as perfect as you can get, all things considered--but there's only one thing I'd like to see changed: I'd like a guarantee that the 1-vs.-1 type matchups cannot take place three years in a row at the same site (see: IND@NE, IND@NE, IND@NE, NE@IND, NE@IND, NE@IND), by changing the way those games are scheduled. [Without getting into the details, let me just say that this is a very easy fix.]
I'd also ask that there be a change in the way they assign home/away games for interdivisional/interconference games, but then I remembered that, under the current system, the Pats won't have four WC road trips again until 2032.

Good point, it's hard to be rivals when head to head the record is pats 9 out of 10 games, although all time I think were close to 50/50

Very true, case in point, I have over a thousand post on PF.com and maybe a couple hundred and Finheavan. The fish don't consume my time like the Pats.

It goes back to win the AFCE had the Colts in it, thats when the pats/Colts rivalry began, I agree all opponets are rivals. It is just when you talk of historic rivalries that you get Eagles/ Giants, jets/fish, Pats/Colts.
Jets/ Pats is more of a recent thing since BB left NY, it has grown into a great rivalry, but not in a traditional sense.
JMHO.

actually, the pats/colts thing didn't get going until they left the division and playing twice in 2003......
the thing with the jets is that yes, they do have more of a rivalry with the dolphins, but the jets have sucked for so long, that they have never developed a rivalry outside the division.......the pats have historic rivalries with the steelers, raiders, colts, chargers....the jets have none of that

I guess rivalries are more up to an individual fan's own interpretation.
I am surprised you would say the Pats have a rivalry with the Raiders, The Jets play the Raiders every year usually in Oakland, it's like the NFL is trying to force a Jets/Raiders rivalry. Although I am sure it is just part of the way the schedule works out.
