Tom Brady Wins Sports Emmy For “Tom Vs. Time”

Tom Brady’s trophy case just got even more crowded.

On Monday, the “Tom vs. Time” Facebook documentary series was named the winner for “outstanding serialized sports documentary” by the Sports Emmy Awards.

The documentary beat out two volumes of Amazon Prime’s “All or Nothing” featuring Manchester City and the Dallas Cowboys, HBO’s “Being Serena,” and ESPN+’s “Quest for the Stanley Cup.”

The series premiered in January 2018 during the NFL playoffs and offered a behind-the-scenes look into Brady’s life both on and off the field throughout the 2018 season.

Brady reflected back on the process it took to film the series in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

WATCH: “Tom vs Time” Epilogue

After a surprise teaser drop Tuesday, Tom Brady and director Gotham Chopra released an epilogue that concludes the Tom vs Time documentary series.

“After 18 years in the NFL, Tom Brady has done it all. Now, after an off-season spent in search of his conviction, Tom looks ahead to his 19th season season at age 41. Win or lose, Tom’s mind is always on the next game.”

VIDEO: “Tom vs. Time” Returns With Surprise Epilogue

Although six months have passed since the final episode of Tom vs Time, it appears Tom Brady and director Gotham Chopra have a little more to share.

On Facebook Tuesday, Chopra released a teaser trailer on the documentaries Facebook page for a new epilogue that will provide some additional answers to the dramatic final interview in the last episode.

According to an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Jenny Vrentas, Chopra had the following to say about the end of episode six that left him and his viewers wanting more.

“The sound guy, me, the [director of photography]—everyone was like, Oh, wow, that’s pretty dramatic,” said Chopra. “And then, like a month later, he’s having a good time; he’s happy, and he’s excited. I think he had done some postseason meetings with his coaches and the owner, and he was starting to get pumped for the new season.”

Chopra felt a cinematic epilogue was the best way to end the series while also stating “no serious thought was given to making a second season of Tom vs. Time.”   

As for the potential of Brady announcing his retirement during the epilogue, Chopra provided some relaxation for fans.

“I don’t want to give it away, but I can at least sort of remove the suspense…It’s not like he ever says this is his last season, or anything like that.”

The full, five-minute, video will be shared on the Tom vs Time Facebook page at 12pm on Wednesday.

As a lead up, a special watch party of Episode Two of Tom vs Time will also occur on Brady’s official Facebook at 8pm Tuesday.

The final episode of “Tom vs Time” was released Monday entitled “The End Game” which chronicled the Patriots playoff run leading up to and the aftermath from the 41-33 Super Bowl LII loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

VIDEO: Tom Brady Sits Down For Interview With “Good Morning America”

On Monday morning, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady began his promotional tour for the final episode of “Tom vs Time” which was uploaded to Facebook this afternoon.

His first stop was the set of “Good Morning America”, where he sat down with his friend and former NFL linebacker Michael Strahan to discuss the six episode series, the balance between football and family, and the lessons he learned and taught his children when it comes to Super Bowl defeat.

Strahan is an executive producer for “Religion of Sports” the documentary series that produced “Tom vs Time”, he interviewed Brady in two parts that can be viewed below.

After five episodes leading up to Super Bowl LII, fans were left wondering how the “Tom vs Time” documentary series would end when the New England Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

On Wednesday, the answer was provided with a trailer for episode six that debuted on “Good Morning America” as anchor Michael Strahan is a co-founder of “Religion of Sports”, the production company behind the series.

The final episode focuses on the emotional effect the Super Bowl defeat had on his children and the lesson he taught them from it as he begins to shift his attention to next season.

You can view episode six on the Tom vs Time Facebook page next Monday (3/12) and Brady will also appear on “Good Morning America” the same day to discuss the completed series.

Tom vs Time Filmmaker Provides Details About Final Episode

Leading up to Super Bowl LII, the Facebook Live documentary series “Tom vs Time” gave fans an inside look as to how Tom Brady balances football and family over the course of an NFL season.

Through five episodes the series was without a finale, as it was dependent upon the the result of the Super Bowl. When the Patriots fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, many fans were left wondering how it would end.

In a statement released on the documentaries official Facebook Page, the creator, filmmaker Gotham Chopra, provided some clarity on what will happen next.

But the clock is ticking, Tom’s children are growing up fast, and his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, is losing patience with Tom’s all-consuming devotion to his sport. Time is all we have – and Tom is painfully aware of it. How much longer can he keep playing the sport he loves.”
