We’re weeks away from the start of free agency, but the New England Patriots made a move on Tuesday to ensure quite a few players will be a part of their offseason plans in the coming months.
According to the league’s transaction wire, the Patriots signed 13 practice squad players to a future contract, which keeps a good portion of that unit intact.
Here’s a quick rundown of the players who were signed:
- Mekhi Butler (G)
- Amari Gainer (LB)
- John Jiles (WR)
- Marshall Lang (TE)
- Lorenz Metz (T)
- Jeremiah Pharms (DT)
- Otis Reese (LB)
- Andrew Rupich (T)
- John Saunders (DB)
- Leonard Taylor (DT)
- Jeremiah Webb (WR)
- Sebastian Gutierrez (T)
- Elijah Mitchell (RB)
The Patriots did see one player move on, with defensive back Miles Battle signing with the Miami Dolphins.
Battle appeared in five games this season, which came mostly on special teams. He last saw snaps in Week 17 when he was in on 15-of-25 snaps on special teams against the Jets, as well as 29 snaps on defense, his only appearance with that unit all season. He didn’t see any playing time during the postseason.
