The Panini Senior Bowl will be played Saturday in Mobile, Alabama.  This is the premium College All-Star game, and every one of the players playing in this game will either be drafted or signed as an Undrafted Free Agent.  NFL Network will be broadcasting the game on Saturday at 2:30. Players are coached by current NFL Coaches and are put through a series of drills in three days of Practice.  NFL Network broadcasts live from these practices, and the NFL Scouts put more emphasis on their evaluations of what transpires in these practices.   The list of players I identify is of players that I have observed by watching the practices or from other reports from reporters on the ground in Mobile.  I use several different reports and highlight those players who are mentioned by multiple reports.

Day One National Team Practice

Tyren Montgomery, WR, John Carroll (DIII) – We have another DIII player making a splash at the Senior Bowl.  In 2021, Quinn Meinerz, the All-Pro OG for Denver, made a big splash in the Senior Bowl.  He played for the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater, a DIII school.  Montgomery is making a similar impression, despite playing at a lower level of competition.  If John Carroll sounds familiar, it is the school that Josh McDaniels and Nick Caserio played at.  In the NFL, currently, there are 43 grads from John Carroll actively involved with 19 teams in either Coaching, Scouting, or Management.  Montgomery’s play in the practices is what has got scouts excited.

Bryce Boettcher, LB, Oregon – He had a great rep in Pass Blocking drills for running backs.  The linebacker is simulating a blitz, and the RB must block it.  Boettcher came on and trucked Penn State RB Nick Singleton, knocking him ass over tea kettle.

Jacob Rodriquez, LB, Texas Tech – The highly decorated Linebacker swept all the major Defensive awards this past year (Lombardi Award, Butkus Award, Bronko Nagurski Award, Chuck Bednarik Award and finished 5th in the Heisman Trophy Voting).  His play on the field, especially in one-on-one pass rushing drills, was outstanding.

Lee Hunter, DL, Texas Tech –   That Texas Tech Defense was outstanding, and several players will be drafted for it.  Hunter dominated in the one-on-one drills, whether pass rushing or run blocking.

Colton Hood, DB, Tennessee – Hood is a potential 1st round pick and has been linked as a possible Patriots selection.   In one-on-one passing drills, he was a shutdown corner.

Day 1 American Team

Lewis Bond, WR, Boston College – The smallish Bond (5’11”, 192 pounds, 4.52 40) put on a show in one-on-one receiving drills.  His route running and multiple moves got him open often.

Ted Hurst, WR, Georgia State – This is a player who showed up in multiple reports.  I’ll admit that I don’t know much about him and didn’t watch Georgia State.  He played only one year at Georgia State but put up great numbers (56 Rec, 961 yards, and 9 TDs)  The 6’3”, 207-pound Receiver has a 4.48 40.   Hurst played at DII Valdosta State before making the jump to FBS Georgia State.

Ja’Kobi Lane, WR, USC – is a well-known receiver in this draft.  He is a tall (6’4”) 196-pound receiver who played at a high level in the Big Ten.  The drawback on Lane is that he has just a 4.55e 40 time.  Nonetheless, he has impressed at the Senior Bowl, with his big hands (10 3/8”) and wide catch radius.

Sam Roush, TE, Stanford – He is one of the biggest TEs (6’ 5.5”, 259 pounds) at the Senior Bowl, and he moves effortlessly.  He had several TD catches, and again, his name popped up on multiple reports.  The Patriots need a TE in this draft, with Hooper being a Free Agent and Hunter Henry on the other side of 30.

Derrick Moore, EDGE, Michigan –   Again, a multiple report player.  The 6’3.4” 254-pound end was impressive in his pass rush moves.  He may be available on Day two after the top EDGE players have been taken off the Draft board.  Edge is a position of need for the Patriots with Harold Landry’s decline over the course of the season and the possibility that K’Lavon Chaisson could leave in Free Agency.

Kyle Loius, LB, Pitt – The 6’.224-pound backer consistently played tight pass coverage.  He had an INT.

TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson – blew past OTs in pass blocking drills.  He should be gone early in the draft.  If the Patriots are interested in him and he is still on the Draft board at the end of the 1st round, they better pounce on him.  I don’t expect him to be available when the Patriots’ 2nd round selection comes up!

Day 2 National Team

Tyren Montgomery, WR, John Carroll – I wrote about Montgomery in Day 1, and he followed that up with another strong day.  Three different reporters had him listed as one of their standouts on Day 2.

Mike Washington, RB, Arkansas – He is a player I have my eye on for the Patriots.  The 6’, 228-pound back is a load.  He has 4.45e speed to add to his size.  Another report talked about how good Washington’s hands were in passing drills.  Washington is not known for this.  He caught 28 passes for 226 yards and an 8.1 YPC this year for Arkansas.  He played one year in the SEC, after playing at Buffalo for 3 years, starting 2 years, transferring to New Mexico State for a year, then Arkansas.

Bud Clark, S, TCU –   Another player with multiple mentions by reporters on site at the Senior Bowl.  The 6’1”, 185 Safety is creating buzz at the Senior Bowl.  I believe Safety is a priority for the Patriots with Jaylinn Hawkins a Free Agent.

Davidson Igbinosun, CB, Ohio State – he is a big 6’2”, 192-pound DB with 32 7/8” arm length; he used that size to break up multiple passes.  His 4.34 speed is another intriguing asset.

Chris Hilton, WR, LSU –  Hilton has the unique accomplishment of playing in his 4th College All-Star game this year.  Previously, he played in the American Bowl, the Hula Bowl, and the East-West Shrine games.  He was a late addition to the Senior Bowl.

Darrell Jackson, DT, Florida State – He was also a late addition to the Senior Bowl after an impressive week at the East-West Shrine game.  He doesn’t look out of place in the practices.

Day 2 American Practice

The American Team had 100% full participation in both the 1st and 2nd day of practice.  In these days of pampered athletes, there is a risk of injury. It is remarkable that the squad had two days of full participation.

Markel Bell OT Miami – The 6’8.6”, 358-pounds with 36 5/8 arms is hard to miss!  He had a tough day in the 1st practice on Tuesday, but bounced back with a strong practice on Wednesday.

Max Iheanachor, OT, Arizona State – he was mentioned by multiple sources for his Pass Blocking reps, specifically against Derrick Moore.  Iheanachor used his slide step to cut off Moore from getting around the edge, and when Moore spun back inside, Iheancor swallowed him up.  Moore shoved Iheanachor after the whistle, and Iheanachor fired back a punch.  I had Iheanchor in my initial Mock Draft.

Xavian Sorey, LB, Arkansas – The 6’1.7”, 220-pound Linebacker had an impressive day with an INT and a sack in team play.  The height and weight are official weights taken at the Senior Bowl.  He has lost 1.3” in height and 11 pounds from his listed weight published by Arkansas.  Sorey has reported 4.49e speed.  Here is a difference between the two sources on his speed.  We won’t know officially until either the combine or Pro Day.

Taylen Green, QB, Arkansas – You can’t miss the physical size of Green at 6’6”, 229 pounds.  He has 10” hands per his official measurements from the Senior Bowl.  He has a strong arm, as evident from his bomb, travelling over 50 air yards while stepping up in the pocket.  The pass appeared to be thrown off the wrong foot, but his arm is strong enough that he got it downfield.  Green’s short-to-medium passing game is very inconsistent.  I had Green on my initial Mock Draft as a 7th-round selection.  I wanted to draft the freak athlete who runs a 4.44 40-yard dash to convert him to TE or WR.  If he has a good week in Mobile, you can forget about a position change.

Malachi Fields, WR, Notre Dame – He was another player that was mentioned by more than one site.  Fields was the recipient of that bomb from Green.  Fields had to layout to make the catch.   The 6’4”, 218-pound wideout has one big drawback.  He has small hands for such a big receiver.

Barrion Brown, WR, LSU – Brown had a big day.  It was noticed that Brown was getting off the line of Scrimmage easily and creating instant separation.  He led all receivers in measured speed, according to Zebra Analytics.

Jalon Kilgore, CB, South Carolina – at 6’1”, 211 pounds, he has great size and good speed (4.48).  His closing speed is what impressed scouts.

Gabe Jacas, EDGE, Illinois – He has put together back-to-back good days of practice.  The 6’3”, 260-pound EDGE player utilizes Speed and Power to beat his opponents.

Day 3 results will be coming on Friday with a list of players to watch.  The game is on the NFL Network on Saturday, the 31st, at 2:30.
