Patriots Make A Series Of Moves, Signals They’re Not Happy At One Position
The Patriots appear to be exploring their options at tight end.

The Patriots made several roster moves on Wednesday, with the club still sifting through talent as they look to build their roster in the coming weeks.
The team waived wide receiver Demeer Blankumsee and offensive tackle Yasir Durant on Wednesday. Blankumsee was simply waived, while Durant’s transaction was also given an injury designation.
The club also terminated the contract of veteran running back Treyveon Williams.
In place of those players, the team added tight ends Tyler Davis and Cole Fotheringham, while also adding center Alec Lindstrom. There were several unfamiliar faces at practice, with Lindstrom being the only one confirmed. However, both Davis and Fotheringham were likely the other two rounding out that group during Wednesday’s session.
Davis is a former sixth-round pick out of Jacksonville who spent the last two years on the Packers’ practice squad, while Fotherington spent part of last year in Las Vegas on the team’s practice squad. He was signed by Denver earlier this spring, but they released him prior to the start of training camp.
Meanwhile, Lindstrom is a local favorite who played his college at Boston College, but has been battling to land on a roster. He bounced around with Dallas and the Los Angeles Rams before ending up with the Jets, where he spent a portion of last year on their practice squad.
Also appearing on the “passed physical” list were two additional tight ends in Louisville’s Duane Martin and Auburn’s John Samuel Shenker. Aside from their physicals, neither of those two fell among the list of today’s roster transactions.
While those two are not yet on the roster, the fact that the Patriots are exploring their options at that position tells you they’re not necessarily in love with where their depth is at this point of the preseason.

As Ian said: interesting. Brock Lampe/Fullback out for the year may be part of if (?). Possibly there’s no great fullback options available and so maybe one of these new TE guys can play a hybrid TE/FB role. Also, I’ve not heard a peep on CJ Dipre. Saw him run one route in drills and he looked stiff/slow on the one play I watched. One play… Perhaps Dipre is not cutting it? Another angle would be if Hooper is physically limited going forward per whatever his injury was/is. McDaniels loves the two TEs and at times FB. It gives McD… Read more »
