Here’s what Patriots defensive lineman Christian Barmore had to say to reporters on July 24, 2025:

On how it feels for him to be back out there:

“It’s a blessing, man. I feel really good, man. I feel back to myself, feel back to normal. I was really happy, man.”

On how long that took, to feel like himself as a football player:

“Really, man, it’s just about working hard every day. I’m never missing no days and just keep working hard, just keep on working.”

On the fact we saw him working off to the side and how he would describe the plan the coaches have for him:

“I’m following all the good plans with the coaches. The coaches have the best for me, so I’m doing everything the coaches want me to do. Again, I’m really just doing real good work and just following everything the coaches are doing.”

On what winning means to him after what’s gone on the last couple of years, and what the bottom line is of getting a win each week:

“Really, man, just coming in and attack every day. Coming every day just to win, especially on defense. Defense wins championships. Everybody talks about that. Really just want to just keep dominating on defense. And really just keep having a good day on defense, just keep on winning. That’s the goal.”

On the fact that in the spring, he was very optimistic about starting week one, and if he’s still in that mindset right now:

“Yeah, I’m fine. Yeah, I’m still. Yeah, everything fine.  Yes.”

On considering what he’s been through, what it means to him to be out here to start training camp:

“Really just have a lot of supporters. I have medical staff, Jimbo, listening to his rules, listening to him helping me out every day, listening to all the good coaches, and I have trainers helping me out where I am today. I couldn’t do it by myself. I had good people with me, had God with me, had the right team with me to help me up, fit me right back where I’m supposed to be.”

On the fact he looks slimmer:

“Oh, yeah. You see that? Yeah.”

On how that helped him and what led to that:

“Really, man, just doing a lot of conditioning, a lot of running, man, a lot of core workouts and all that. Just working hard with Coach Frank, too. You know what I’m saying? Have a good plan for me. Just keep on really just having me in the best shape as possible. These coaches, and the coaches I have, and the medical staff, just really good people helping me, fit me in the best possible shape I’m supposed to be in. And I’m really grateful for that.”

On if he thinks that will help him with his defense and if that was his decision or the team’s decision:

“Really, as a man, it’s my decision and their decision. Following their rules, too. You know what I’m saying? It’s all me following everybody’s rules, yeah.  That’s my job, too.”

On non-traditional workouts – Christian Gonzalez talked about pilates, Milton Williams talked about boxing, and if he’s doing anything non-traditional:

“Really just doing more ladder drills and feet work drills and more, just, how can I say? Just more conditioning-wise, track. I’m doing a lot of more flexing on the hurdles and stuff like that. But yeah, doing more cool workout stuff.”

On if he had a number in mind that he wanted to get to in terms of his weight to start camp:

“Really, yeah. Well, well, I’m probably 305 or 300. That’s really my weight. That’s where I’m going to be at.”

On if he feels faster:

“I feel, yeah. I feel real better. I feel so faster, I feel lighter, and just feel way quicker. I feel like I move way better. It’s the best of a move I felt since I’ve been in the league, I feel like. So I feel really well.”

On what he played at two years ago:

“Two years ago? Two years ago, I was 320, 315. Usually around that… Because in the cold, you’re going to gain a little weight. I was around 320, 325.”

On the fact he said it was his call but if it was something the team had influence on as well:

“Well, really, it’s just about being motivated. Really because I know I want to be the best player I can be for this team and be the best player I can be for this defense. You know what I’m saying? So I just want to come in here and show and lead and just show that I really love doing this. You got to love this stuff. You know what I’m saying? And I love it. So I told myself, want to be in the best shape as possible as I can, really just be in a better shape than ever I’ve been.”

On if he thinks it will allow him to do anything in the scheme specifically, and if they’re looking for lighter gys as opposed to the defenses he played in the past, ex: if they’re asking him to two-gap a little more, it might help him to be a little bigger:

“I’m just doing everything the coach wants me to do, man. Really, that’s the goal.”

On the conditioning he was doing today off to the side, if he’s dealing with something new, and why he was working there:

“Got to talk to coach about that. It’s all coaches.”

On if he’s doing anything different with his diet:

“Oh, yeah, man. Eat real different. You know what I’m saying? Have the right… Eat a lot of protein carbs. You know what I’m saying? Definitely. Eat your veggies. You hear me? So, yeah.”

On if he wakes up feeling grateful and what his emotions are like each day:

“Oh, yeah, man. I feel being grateful to God every day, man. Happy to be where I’m at. You know what I’m saying? Because I want to do a lot. And where I am in the day, I just thank God every day for it. Especially supporters who helped me where I am today. And I just thank God every day for it.”

On what excites him about this defense:

“What excites me about this defense? Just every day, man. The energy. Got a lot of dogs on this field. So I just love it. You know what I’m saying? Everybody, the energy is just high, and I love it.”

On his thoughts about how much he and Milton Williams can help each other out:

“Me and Millie? No, he’s always telling me it’s all about a dominant front. That’s all we talk about. It’s lean on us, especially the whole D-line and our linebackers and D-ends, everybody. Same, the front played good. Everybody played good. So that’s the goal. Every time we on that field, we got to dominate. That’s our goal.”

On if there’s anything specific in his rehab that he’s gone through in getting back on the field:

“Really just talk to my trainer, Jimbo. You know what I’m saying? He’s the best trainer in the NFL, so I really talk to my trainer every day. He’s the one I talk to, someone I need to talk to, and I follow his rules.”
