For anyone hoping to see Malik Cunningham continue to develop into a potential quarterback for the Patriots, it looks like that run is coming to an end.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Baltimore Ravens are signing Cunningham off New England’s practice squad and onto their active roster.
That means that the former Louisville standout will get to play with fellow Cardinals alumni Lamar Jackson as Baltimore finishes out its final four games.
Cunningham had spent most of this season playing receiver for the Patriots, while taking a handful of snaps at quarterback during what’s obviously been a tumultuous 2023 campaign.
While Bailey Zappe had a promising outing last week against the Steelers, many wondered if Zappe faltered, whether or not it would potentially be Cunningham who might be next in line ahead of veteran Will Grier.
Instead, it looks like the Patriots will finish out the year with Zappe, Grier, and Mac Jones in their quarterback room.
Cunningham had been active the last two weeks for the Patriots, but didn’t see a snap in their loss against the Chargers two weeks ago, or last Thursday night’s win over Pittsburgh.
The former Louisville QB was an undrafted signing for the Patriots last April, with the club giving him a franchise record $200,000 in guaranteed money, which was the most ever given to an undrafted free agent.
