It appears that while New England Patriots defensive back Jack Jones won’t miss any time following the charges recently being dropped against him in court for his weapons charges, it sounds like it may be an injury that keeps him out to begin 2023.

Jones has been on the injury report with a hamstring injury this week, with the second-year defensive back officially being ruled out on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s game against the Eagles.

However, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported on Saturday that Jones will not only miss tomorrow’s contest, but he may be out for an extended period of time.  Howe Tweeted earlier on Saturday that Jones may be out for multiple games, saying that, “a trip to injured reserve is likely.”

That’s bad news for a Patriots secondary that will certainly miss him.  Jones was projected to start opposite rookie Christian Gonzalez, with Jonathan Jones likely to handle the duties inside.  Instead, they’ll now have to shift him around, and it will also likely result in additional playing time for second-year defensive back Marcus Jones, along with whoever the club plugs in from there.

Jones’ situation should be interesting to monitor, especially since an injury last season put the former Arizona State defensive back at odds with the team and led to some internal discipline.

Bill Belichick repeatedly said this offseason that the team had moved on from that, but it’s hard not to wonder if history might repeat itself as Jones again misses time.
