Patriots Add Another WR in Round 6, Select Liberty’s Demario Douglas
Rich Storry-USA TODAY Sports
The Patriots went ahead and took another wide receiver in the sixth round on Saturday, selecting Liberty’s Demario Douglas with the 210th overall pick.
This selection comes after the club earlier selected LSU’s Kayshon Boutte, with New England adding some offensive depth to their roster.
Watching film on Douglas, he’s a terrific athlete. He ran a 4.44 40-yard dash at the combine, along with a 4.29 20-yard shuttle, and his performance on the field certainly backs up those metrics.
He’s not the biggest of players, coming in at 5’8″, 179lbs but he’s got an unbelievable first step after catching the ball, with the ability to slide laterally left or right and elude defenders, only to then accelerate and take off.
And when he does, he’s really tough to catch. If they can get to him at all.
That one asset alone is one of the biggest things that stands out watching him play, and he’s just absolutely terrific with the ball in his hands.
He led the team in receiving in 2022, catching 79 passes for 993-yards along with six touchdowns. They also used him at times in the ground game, with Douglas also tallying one rushing touchdown.
He also saw a fair amount of time in the return game, which could potentially give the Patriots some depth to go along with last year’s rookie standout, Marcus Jones.
Overall, this is definitely one of the more intriguing picks of the weekend and it should be interesting to see what type of role he’s able to possibly carve for himself.
