After starting the season 0-2, it appears the Las Vegas Raiders needed to add some depth to their offensive line and Josh McDaniels reached out to his old team to get some help.

According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the New England Patriots made a deal with Las Vegas to send offensive lineman Justin Herron to the desert in exchange for swapping draft slots in the 2024 draft, although there were no further details around where that selection might fall.

Herron had 10 starts for New England during his time with the team, with the veteran having joined the club in 2020 after being selected in the sixth round (195th overall) out of Wake Forest.

He had a rough preseason, getting called twice for a false start in the opener against the Giants but did see a fair amount of time as the Patriots dealt with various issues up front as they took a look at several players and put their depth together.

Herron has experience playing tackle, which is believed to be where the Raiders will need some help, with the right tackle position being where Herron’s services may be needed.

His departure is a little surprising given that New England has its own issues depth-wise, especially given the concerns around Isaiah Wynn’s health after he’s seemingly been banged up.  Wynn is also in the final year of his rookie deal after the club already exercised his fifth-year option this past offseason.

The Raiders are currently preparing for what’s certainly a key divisional game at home against the Broncos this weekend, while the Patriots are getting ready to take on the Ravens this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
