ICYMI: Louisville Hires Deion Branch To Be Director Of Player Development
Greg M. Cooper - USA TODAY Sports
Former New England Patriots wide receiver and Super Bowl XXXIX MVP Deion Branch is back in college athletics.
Last week, Branch’s alma mater, the University of Louisville announced he will become the school’s new Director of Player Development.
“To have one of the greatest wide receivers to ever play at Louisville and a former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player join our staff is a great addition to our football program,” Satterfield said in a press release. “He is a recognizable name here at Louisville – one that our players can look up to. We are excited to welcome back Deion to his alma mater.”
During his two years as a Louisville Cardinal, Branch logged 143 receptions for 2,204 yards and 18 receiving touchdowns and helped the team win two Conference USA titles. His number 9 jersey was honored by the University.
Following his Louisville tenure, Branch was drafted in the second round (65th overall) by the Patriots in the 2002 NFL Draft.
In 12 pro seasons, Branch totaled 518 receptions for 6,644 yards and 39 touchdowns but his highest achievement came during Super Bowl XXXIX when his 11 catches (then a Super Bowl record) for 133 yards earned him the game’s MVP award.
Branch would voice his excitement for the new job in a series of tweets following the announcement.
