ICYMI: Richard Seymour Named Finalist For Pro Football Hall of FameDale Zanine - USA TODAY Sports

For the fourth consecutive year, former New England Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour has been named a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

A first-round draft pick (sixth overall) by the Patriots in 2001, Seymour spent his first eight seasons in New England, helping the team reach four Super Bowls and three championships. In 2009, Seymour was traded to the Oakland Raiders where he completed his career in 2012.

Over his 12 pro seasons, Seymour logged 496 total tackles, 57.5 sacks, seven Pro Bowl selections, three first-team All-Pro honors, and was named a member of the Patriots 50th Anniversary Team, Patriots All 2000’s Team, and the NFL’s All 2000’s Team.

Seymour and Patriots teammate Vince Wilfork were named as two of the 26 semifinalists for enshrinement in November, but Wilfork didn’t make the cut for the final 15 in this round of voting.

Seymour joins 14 additional “modern era” finalists, all of which will be voted on by the Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee to determine the Class of 2022 on “Selection Saturday”, the day before Super Bowl LVI in Inglewood, California.

The Selection Committee may select up to five Modern-Era Players for the Class of 2022; each must receive a minimum positive vote of 80 percent for election.

The other 14 finalists for the Class of 2021 include Devin Hester, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Torry Holt, DeMarcus Ware, Patrick Willis, Jared Allen, Zach Thomas, Ronde Barber, Leroy Butler, Bryant Young, Sam Mills, Tony Boselli, and Willie Anderson.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2022 will be formally revealed on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2021 during the NFL Honors ceremony.
