Now that the calendar has turned to October, the long-awaited wait for the New England Patriots Hall of Fame’s class of 2020 induction ceremony will be finally over.
On Saturday, October 23rd, the Patriots will host the free and open to the public outdoor ceremony for Richard Seymour and longtime cheerleading director Tracey Sormanti, who passed away in December 2020 from multiple myeloma. An exact time has yet to be announced.
Originally, Seymour was voted in by the fans as the 30th player inductee into the Patriots Hall of Fame in May 2020 but the ceremony did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the time, Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft released the following statement reflecting upon Seymour’s Patriots legacy.
“Richard Seymour laid the foundation for a defense that helped propel the Patriots to three Super Bowl championships in his first four seasons in the NFL. Richard was the consummate professional and leader, always accepting the roles he was assigned, putting team goals ahead of personal ones, and in turn, raising the game of everyone around him. Yet as great as he was as a player, he is a Hall of Fame-caliber person, as well. I couldn’t be happier for Richard and the Seymour family, and I am looking forward to celebrating with them as Richard takes his rightful place in the Patriots Hall of Fame and very soon the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.”
In addition to the induction ceremony, the Patriots will also honor Seymour at halftime against the New York Jets on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021.
On Wednesday, which also happens to be Seymour’s birthday, the Patriots shared a promotional video for the upcoming induction ceremony.
