After a year of no induction ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the New England Patriots formally announced on Monday that defensive end Richard Seymour will be formally inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 23rd.

In the spring of 2020, Seymour won the fan vote for selection into the Patriots Hall of Fame as its 30th member, but the ceremony was put off until a safer timeframe.

This fall, like all prior induction ceremonies in Foxborough, will be free and open to the public.

During his tenure with the Patriots, “Big Sey” was a part of four trips to the Super Bowl, helping the franchise win its first three championships.

Over his 12 year career between the Patriots and Oakland Raiders, Seymour was named to five All-Pro teams and invited to seven Pro Bowls. His contributions to the Patriots earned him spots on both the team’s 50th Anniversary Team and All-2000s Team.

Seymour retired from the NFL in 2013, finishing his career with 496 tackles, 57.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and two interceptions.

Additionally, the Patriots will also honor Seymour with a halftime ceremony against the New York Jets on Sunday, Oct. 24th.

Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft also revealed that longtime cheerleader director Tracy Sormanti was selected for induction into the team’s Hall of Fame as a contributor. She is the first woman to earn induction into the Patriots Hall of Fame.

Last December, Sormanti passed away following a three-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. She worked 32 seasons with the Patriots.

Kraft shared the following statement about Sormanti in a press release on Monday.

“Tracy Sormanti was one of my first hires after I bought the team and, for the past 27 seasons, she was one of our greatest ambassadors,” said Kraft. “No one was more passionate about the Patriots and committed to using our brand to connect with fans than Tracy. She loved preparing her teams for their performances, both on and off the field, and did so with great compassion and conviction. Her countless contributions spanning the past three decades have entertained and positively impacted the lives of so many in our communities. It is an honor to select Tracy as a Patriots Hall of Famer and to know that her legacy will be preserved for generations to come.”

Fans of all ages will be welcomed to attend the induction ceremony, the exact time of the event will be announced at a later date.
