The 2020 NFL season was one to forget for New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.
Edelman played in a career-low six games while dealing with a knee injury that ultimately led to surgery sidelining the former Super Bowl MVP for the Patriots final nine games.
In mid-December, it appeared Edelman had a chance to return, but the Patriots never activated him from injured reserve.
On Friday, head coach Bill Belichick officially confirmed he will not be playing in the season finale against the New York Jets.
“He’s not going to play this year,” Belichick said while also adding that Edelman had no setbacks in recovery when asked.
“I wouldn’t say that, no, He wasn’t ready to play and he won’t be ready to play”, Belichick stated.
As for Edelman’s playing future, Belichick said it’s “way too early” to discuss next year.
On Twitter New Years Eve, Edelman shared a simple, but familiar optimistic message to fans as 2021 begins.

Over the next four games, Edelman never looked right again, recording just eight additional catches for 79 yards.
