Malcolm Mitchell’s NFL career started with the highest of highs but ended with the lowest of lows.
In 2016, Mitchell finished his rookie season with 32 receptions for 401 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games.
Mitchell capped off his first year with a Super Bowl ring as he helped the New England Patriots capture their fifth championship.
In Super Bowl LI, Mitchell caught six passes for 70 yards, with five coming during their historic comeback.
Over the next two seasons, Mitchell battled a string of knee injuries that sidelined him for good.
Mitchell never saw game action again and was waived by the Patriots in August 2018. He went unsigned.
This past March, Mitchell formally retired from the NFL.
On his Instagram Tuesday, Mitchell opened up about his post playing career with part one of “Treasure Box”, a short film directed by himself.
The film details Mitchell’s unexpected “break up” from football and the game’s impact on his life.
Mitchell has found success as a children’s book author in retirement while continuing to do work with his “Read With Malcolm” child literacy program.
