It’s bad enough when you’re getting dominated on the defensive side of the football, but for the Texans, Ryan Allen added a little insult to injury last Thursday night by having an outstanding performance.
The veteran punter punted seven times for 333 yards but the thing that hurt the Texans was the fact Ryan dropped six of those punts inside the 20, starting Houston off with poor field position on a night where they didn’t cross midfield until there was 3:27 to go in the 3rd quarter. Even then, Allen still started the Texans off with tough field position when he hit his longest punt of the night after the Patriots’ drive stalled at their own 23-yard line. Allen boomed a punt 57-yards, which was downed at the Texans 20-yard line, forcing the Texans to start another drive deep in their own territory.
Overall, he put punts at the 11, 10, 10, 20, 14, 5 and 4-yard lines, with Houston also failing to accrue any punt return yards, or any points.
Bill Belichick enjoys seeing complete performances from his football team and Allen’s night certainly capped what was a terrific effort as the team improved to 3-0 last week.
