Patriots Sign RB Montee Ball and WR DeAndre Carter
Mark L. Baer - USA TODAY Sports
Following the news running back LeGarrette Blount was placed on season ending injured reserve with a hip injury, the New England Patriots signed running back Montee Ball and rookie receiver DeAndre Carter.
Both players join the practice squad, with receiver Austin Hill and defensive lineman Kelcy Quarles getting released per a CBS Boston report.
During his 2013 rookie season, Ball played a contributing role in the Denver Broncos Super Bowl run, rushing for 559 yards and four touchdowns. In 2014, he was limited to just five games before a groin injury prematurely ended his season. Ball was later cut during 2015 training camp by the Broncos.
Ball was teammates with current running back James White at The University of Wisconsin.
Wide receiver DeAndre Carter went undrafted in 2015 but caught on with the Baltimore Ravens in training camp but was cut in late August before making it onto the Oakland Raiders practice squad most of the 2015 season before being released in early December.
RB Montee Ball has a locker set up here at Patriots team facility. With LeGarrette Blount on crutches earlier Tuesday, Ball would add depth.
