Patriots Release Rashaan Melvin and Joseph Fauria
Mark L. Baer - USA TODAY Sports
As first reported by NESN’s Doug Kyed, the New England Patriots released cornerback Rashaan Melvin and tight end Joseph Fauria.
Melvin was the third cornerback on the Patriots depth chart and according to Kyed, “played just 67 total defensive snaps for the Patriots in eight games” after moving up a spot following the hand injury to rookie Justin Coleman.
Meanwhile, it appears the Fauria Patriots family connection was short lived as Joseph Fauria, the nephew of former Patriots tight end Christian (2002-2005) had his practice squad contract terminated.
The waive of Melvin and termination of Fauria opens up one spot on the 53-Man active roster and practice squad and leaves the Patriots with only three cornerbacks on the roster. (Butler, Ryan and Coleman)
