Patriots Sign Tight End Joseph Fauria To Practice Squad
Robert Deutsch - USA TODAY Sports
As first reported by ESPN’s Field Yates Wednesday morning, the New England Patriots have signed Joseph Fauria to the teams practice squad.
Fauria was most recently cut by the Arizona Cardinals back in October, but saw most of success with the Detroit Lions from 2013-2014 where he recorded 24 receptions for 281 yards with eight touchdowns in 23 career games according to NFL.com statistics.
According to NESN’s Doug Kyed, prior to the signing, “The Patriots have tight ends Rob Gronkowski, Scott Chandler and Michael Williams on their active roster and Asante Cleveland on their practice squad. Cleveland has won Patriots practice player of the week honors five times this season. The Patriots had an open spot on their practice squad when they promoted Chris Harper to the 53-man roster.”
The last name might sound familar to Patriots fans, as Joseph is the nephew of former Patriots tight end Christian Fauria, who was a member of the team from 2002-2005, winning two Super Bowl rings.
When asked about the signing of Fauria, Head Coach Bill Belichick shared these two funny quotes during his Wednesday morning press conference, courtesy of ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
Bill Belichick smiles when asked about TE Joseph Fauria (practice squad). "I'm sure Christian will have something to say," he says.
