Patriots Workout pair of Running Backs, Thomas and Turbin
After losing running back Dion Lewis for the season with a torn ACL, NESN’s Doug Kyed reported on Thursday afternoon the New England Patriots invited free agent backs Pierre Thomas and Robert Turbin into Foxboro.
Both players were recently available after Thomas was cut by the San Francisco 49ers and Turbin was released by the Cleveland Browns, both on Tuesday.
Thomas is most well known for his eight seasons with the New Orleans Saints, in his career he has 822 career rushing attempts for 3,757 yards with 28 touchdowns. He also has caught 327 passes for 2,608 yards with 12 touchdowns and earned a Super Bowl ring following the franchises victory in Super Bowl XLIV over the Indianapolis Colts in 2010.
The 49ers signed running back Travaris Cadet earlier this week prompting the release of Thomas.
In Robert Turbin’s career he has 249 career rushing attempts for 988 yards and also has caught 45 passes for 435 yards with two touchdowns.  According to Kyed, Turbin “was cut by the Seahawks and claimed off waivers by the Browns on Sept. 10 but Turbin carried the ball just 18 times for 60 yards in three games with the Browns.”
Along with Robert Turbin and Pierre Thomas, the Patriots also worked out DT Robert Thomas today. They signed him to the practice squad.
