Days After Upset Win, Bills Confidence High for Patriots
🕑 Read Time: 2 minutes

When Rex Ryan first joined the New York Jets in 2009, he made it clear he wasn’t there to “Kiss Bill Belichick’s rings.”  Flash forward six years to 2015 and the same boisterous voice of  Ryan still be heard loud and clear at his press conference podium.

This time around he is no longer under the bright lights of New York City, but the cool, rugged, blue collar town in western New York of Buffalo. It is a city that shares the same desire and hunger for a championship as his previous franchise and has also had its share of misfortunes coming up short.

Rex Ryan came to Buffalo looking for a change, but with it he brought his same old “in your face” attitude and anti-New England Patriots mantra.

The Bills are coming off a 27-14 upset win over an Indianapolis Colts team picked by many to go to the Super Bowl.

Rex Ryan and his players confidence levels are sky high going into their first divisional match up of the season, and as expected the Ryan led team wasn’t afraid to show it during their interviews with the media.

“I can’t wait to see what our fans are going to be like when you have the hated Patriots — I mean, this kind of rival coming in.” Ryan said during a press conference on Monday.

In the off season, the Bills traded for LeSean McCoy in the hopes of finally getting over the hump after going 9-7 and just missing the playoffs in 2014.

This year with Rex Ryan on board, the quest remains the same for Ryan to try and take down his AFC East rival Bill Belichick, who is coming off his fourth Lombardi trophy as a head coach.

When asked what feels different playing the Patriots this time around Ryan responded, “I don’t know if anything has changed, They’re kind of the hunted in my eyes. They’re the world champions. ”

It wasn’t just the coach providing all the early noise this week, on Tuesday, Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus dropped a double negative on the Patriots saying, “Don’t nobody likes the Patriots…Let’s just be honest about it now. Put it out there.”

Safety Aaron Williams got in on the trash talk saying, “I don’t like New England, so yeah it’s definitely personal for me,” Williams said. “That’s just the way I feel. They’re a great football team. Don’t get that twisted at all. That’s why they’re the four-time NFL champs.”

In nine seasons as an NFL head coach, Rex Ryan has complied a 4-8 career record against the New England Patriots, he began his career with a 3-2 record including a playoff win in Foxboro before the wheels fell off his final four seasons with the Jets. Ryan comes to Buffalo with the same motivation (and mouth) to try and finally end the Patriots divisional dominance.

The Patriots have won the AFC East division title 12 of the last 14 fourteen seasons and have won 26 of 30 against the Bills since Belichick became head coach in 2000.
