Patriots rookie offensive lineman Tre’ Jackson had a good performance during the team’s first exhibition game against the Packers Thursday night, which was certainly an encouraging sight given the uncertainty still surrounding that position.
But on Monday the team got a scare after Jackson was reportedly carted off the field after going down to the turf with what appeared to be a lower-body injury, which was concerning given the potential of losing the young 4th round talent out of Florida State.
However, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, Jackson’s exit was linked to the high heat in Foxboro Monday, with the offensive lineman reportedly succumbing to “heat-related body cramps”.
Temperatures were in the 90’s, which made conditions trying for the players and reportedly lead to head coach Bill Belichick stopping practice twice for water breaks.
That’s good news for both Jackson and New England as anytime a player is carted off the field, it’s always scary since many times that event is followed by news of a potentially serious injury. Fortunately for the Patriots it looks like they dodged a bullet, which given how their luck has played out in recent years, is hopefully a good sign.
