FOXBORO, MA — New England has reportedly added a back-up quarterback, reaching an agreement with former Miami Dolphin QB Damon Huard on Thursday.
According to CBS Sportsline Huard will sign a three-year, $3 million contract that includes a signing bonus of $375,000, along with other incentives. Huard was sent packing by Miami several weeks ago in favor of Ray Lucas who signed as a restricted free agent from the Jets.
Huard will replace John Friesz who was a salary cap casualty early in the free agent period, and will provide Drew Bledsoe with a back up that has NFL game experience. Both back-ups Michael Bishop and Tom Brady haven’t seen enough action to be a competent number two quarterback, and Huard will provide New England with just that.
The former University of Washington standout has completed 170 of 288 passes for 1,691 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions during his time as Dolphins quarterback.
