Patriots Smith Out For Sunday?

FOXBORO, MA — Thursday’s are getting to be a bit dangerous in Foxboro these days.

For the second week in a row the Patriots have sustained an injury to a key player on defense during a Thursday practice. Last week it was nose tackle Chad Eaton, this week it was defensive back Otis Smith who had his foot stepped on during Thursday’s practice and he is questionable for Sunday’s game in Indianapolis against the Colts.

The injury appeared to be just a freak incident. Said Belichick, “Otis was just running covering a guy, and the guy stepped on his foot.” It was the same with Eaton last week. “Chad barely got hit he just got bumped and tweaked [his knee].”

Antonio Langham will most likely see the majority of time at cornerback for New England, but rookie Antwan Harris may also see some time on the field as well, and so far Belichick says Harris has made progress over the last month and has been used recently in third down situations.

“Antwan actually played more against the Colts,” said Belichick. “There weren’t a lot of third down passing situations in the game. When Antwan was in, we were in a different group or whatever.”

“He was all right, he was okay I think he has gotten better particularly the last month.”

BRING THE NOISE

Belichick said Friday that the team was going to practice inside their practice bubble behind Foxboro Stadium, and that he planned on having some noise piped in to help them work on dealing with the fan noise they’ll hear inside the RCA Dome in Indianapolis on Sunday.

The head coach says he has no control over what kind of noise is piped in, but one reporter suggested Bon Jovi which happens to be one of Belichick’s favorites.

“You know that would be good, hopefully,” said Belichick. “You know what? That was out of my hands. I didn’t specify what type of noise we were looking for I just said let’s go inside we’ll get a little noise.”

“I told one of the coaches to get it taken care of and he worked out the details. I am not even sure what they are. I guess if it is too annoying we will have to take a bigger hand in that decision. Maybe I could put that on my resume, ‘Practice Noise Director’.”
