FOOTBALL NOTES (4/25) — After free agent starting right cornerback Steve Israel signed with the New Orleans Saints, the Patriots decided that simply having Tebucky Jones, J’Juan Cherry, and Kato Serwanga competing for a starting role was not enough. They opted to go after Antonio Langham to be their other veteran presence opposite Ty Law.
Langham was a former Brown who was selected in the first round of the draft in 1994 by then head coach Bill Belichick. Langham hails from the University of Alabama and flourished with Cleveland, starting every game during his four years with the Browns and Baltimore.
He went to San Francisco before the 1998 season, and the 49er’s left him unprotected during the expansion draft, and Chris Palmer brought him back to the Browns where Langham played in mostly nickel and dime packages. He was held without an interception that season for the first time in his career.
MY, WHAT PLEASANT NEWS
According to the Boston Herald, defensive end Anthony Pleasant may be finally getting closer to a deal with the Patriots. Pleasant started all 32 games for the Jets the past two years, and recorded 52 tackles and two sacks last season.
According to the report, Pleasant’s agent Neil Cornrich hinted that Pleasant may be quite enamored with the idea of coming to New England.
