FOOTBALL NOTES (3/8) — New England Patriots linebacker Chris Slade (pictured left) restructures his contract to help free up cap room…..Patriots release a player…..A little more information regarding the possible trade of Keyshawn Johnson.

FOOTBALL NOTES (3/8) — The Boston Globe reported this morning that the Patriots have made a move to make additional salary cap room by restructuring linebacker Chris Slade’s contract. According to the Globe, Slade’s cap number of $3.25 was reduced by guaranteeing him $2 million this season.

The Patriots may be trying to free up their cap money in order to try and retain free agent linebacker Tedy Bruschi, who has received offers from the Seattle Seahawks, and is reportedly about to receive one from the Cleveland Browns. He’s also receiving interest from the Green Bay Packers.

In a roster move, the Patriots waived cornerback Corey Ivy.

Keyshawn to be Traded?

Patriots fans may be interested to know a little more about the possible trade of Keyshawn Johnson. The Jets are reportedly working with the Baltimore Ravens involving the possible trade, as Johnson is said to be unhappy with his contract feeling he’s grossly underpaid. The Jets policy is not to renegotiate contracts that have more than 1-year remaining on them. Speculation in New York is that Bill Parcells might have the Browns’ No. 1 pick in the back of his mind if the deal should go through and may enter the bidding war with Washington. Ravens coach Brian Billick said yesterday that he thought he would know whether the trade was doable within 48 hours.

The deal would leave the Jets with three picks in the first round – No. 5, 16, and 18 overall, but whether or not Parcells would package them together for the number one pick is hard to tell. It is believed to be a possibility because the Jets reportedly would rather only pay one player instead of the high price of three 1st round picks.
