FOOTBALL NOTES (2/25) — Heath Irwin officially signed with the Miami Dolphins yesterday, and now the already weak Patriots offensive line just lost one of the few players it wanted to keep.
The Miami Herald reported this morning that Irwin signed a four-year, $7 million deal that includes a $2 million signing bonus. He is reunited with former Patriots offensive line coach Paul Boudreau, and is projected to start at right guard for the Dolphins next season. Boudreau talked about Irwin and what he brings to the Dolphins.
“Heath is a solid guy, a starter in this division,” Boudreau told the Herald. “I know how effective he can be. He’s played both sides and he can be a backup center, so he brings a lot of versatility.”
BROWN MAKING PROGRESS?
Good news on the Troy Brown situation. The Boston Herald reported this morning that the two sides are slowly getting closer to making a deal. Brown’s agent Gary Uberstine told the Herald, “I spoke with (Patriots vice president) Andy Wasynczuk again (yesterday afternoon). We’re slowly getting closer. The conversations have been productive and continuing.”
Brown had planned on squeezing a visit to Philadelphia this week, but that visit, along with his scheduled visit to Dallas next week could reportedly be cancelled if the two sides can make progress in the negotiations.
