Some good news on Monday after Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Patriots have reached an agreement on a contract extension for offensive lineman Mike Onwenu. The deal is reportedly for 3-years and is worth $57 million including $38 million guaranteed. The deal also reportedly includes a $22.5 million signing bonus.

According to NFL reporter Mike Garafolo, the Patriots have an interest in bringing back Mike Onwenu, which could have influenced a move involving the Giants on Monday afternoon. The Giants were reportedly in the mix for Onwenu, but instead made a move to bring back Jon Runyan, which essentially takes them out of the mix. That could mean that it's not over between Onwenu and New England, despite some of the other deals that have been agreed to on Monday.

With the Patriots placing the transition tag on Kyle Dugger, that means that barring an extension ahead of free agency, veteran offensive lineman Mike Onwenu will hit the open market.

Patriots director of Scouting and Eliot Wolf met with reporters on Tuesday and said that they're hopeful to be able to keep Onwenu in the fold. "Mike’s really smart, and he’s introspective, and he’s thoughtful, and he knows what he wants, which is always good when you’re dealing with a player," said Wolf. "He’s certainly someone that we view as a cornerstone for us.”
