workhorse said:Well they did blow the call. Did you see the play? They called that play in the Bengals/Bucs game roughing, there is no way that the hit on Manning wasn't. Even if I wasn't a Colts' fan, I would say the same thing. The twisted him like a pretzel and ripped his helmet off after he got rid of the ball. Everyone knows you can't touch a QB's head, let alone try to rip it off.

Michael said:They probably missed the hit on Manning because they were so desperately looking for a holding call on Wash. I'm sure they'll keep a better eye on the star from now on. New season same officiating. Colts and Broncos being escorted into the playoffs by the "refs". I guess they just like horsey names.
I was just getting ready to quote the exact same thing.Keegs said:Dungy almost never complains about calls
I stopped reading the article after i got to this part.
It is a piece of trash.
I did, and I think they evened that call up when they ignored the spearing to the groin on Clinton Portis. Then they proceeded to throw an embarassing number of marginal flags on Washington until the end of that 1st half.workhorse said:Guess you didn't watch the game.

Dungy almost never complains about calls, but after the game, he said he asked the officials how Washington could avoid being called for landing a blow to the head when Manning's helmet was rolling on the ground a few feet from its owner.
lobster said:Head coaches are not supposed to comment publicly on the officials or their calls. Certainly head coaches can complain privately but apparently Dungy is above the normal rules.
Then Dungy recently made a huge fuss in public over the Jet's no-huddle - sarcastically suggesting that maybe he didn't understand the rule. The NFL's head official subsequently issued a "clarification" to the rule.
Spearing, or hitting with the crown of your helmet, is illegal on any part of your opponents body. Aiming that type of hit at an opponents nuts is especially brutal and unsportsmanlike. To not call it and then hit Moss with a shaky personal foul call was very fishy.workhorse said:Spearing? You can't tackle a running back anymore? Granted I wouldn't want to get hit in the nuts like that, but the tackle was legal. Spearing is putting your helmet in the middle of someone's back, not tackling a guy at the waist. What marginal flags? Are you talking about that kicking thing? I didn't see the celebration part at the game, but offsides is easy to call and everyone knows you can't take your helmet off on the field. Idiot kickers. They sure weren't hold calls when they were tackling Freeney most of the game.

Yeah but you wouldnt hear Tom Brady asking for an apology.workhorse said:Well they did blow the call. Did you see the play? With all due respect, youngsters are taught to keep theirs heads up, get it in front of the ballcarriers path, hit their waist with the shoulder, and wrap up. Doss did none of that. He dropped his head and launched himself like a missile at the ballcarrier. That type of tackling is only done by someone trying to inflict damage, and it recklessly disregards the safety of the ballcarrier and the tackler both.workhorse said:The Moss thing was the ref seeing the second part of the action. It's almost always the second person that gets caught. The same thing happened later in the game, but they either didn't see it or just didn't call it. They really must have been in Moss' head. There is no way that you can tell me that Doss was aiming for Portis' nuts and able to hit them. Doss was doing what you are taught to do when you are a kid, you tackle their belt buckle. If the hit would have been on someone standing still, like a QB in the pocket, then I might buy that it was intentional. But with a running back cutting through the line, no way.
